Bridal designer Monique calls it quits

Monique Bridal, the California-based bridal importer, has announced they are quitting business. According to a Feb. 5 letter from Monique’s president Weaping Lo sent to bridal retailers, the company plans to stop taking new orders for dresses in one week.

“Effective February 20, 2004, Monique Bridal will discontinue its wholesale business and no longer accept new orders. All the repeating orders received before the target date will be shipped before the scheduled completion dates with our consistent quality.”

What that means: if you special ordered a Monique gown, the company is promising to fill the order (as long as it is placed before Feb 20).

While Monique didn’t give a reason for the closure, all bridal designers have been hit with competition from chain stores like David’s Bridal and a tough economy. We expect more will close in the coming year.

If you have ordered a Monique gown, be sure to contact the store/web site you ordered it from immediately to check on delivery. FYI: despite the similar sounding names. Monique Bridal is NOT related to Monique L’Huillier Bridal. Monique Bridal is going out of business, NOT Monique L’Huillier.
