1. Rena Koh update: Company responds to article

After our article appeared on bridal gown maker Rena Koh’s difficulties in filling orders, owner Raymond Lee contacted us to say our story was “untrue” and “totally baseless.”

Last week, the staff of BRIDAL BARGAINS reported that Koh was having problems filling orders, leaving as many as 800 brides without dresses for summer weddings. This was based on reports from bridal retailers who said Koh missed shipments, leaving brides in April and May without dresses.

We reported that this crisis was prompted by the resignation of the US management of Rena Koh, which blamed Koh’s Hong Kong office for the falling out.

Lee responded that Koh fired the US managers to “in order to bring the company to the next level and by far to put the company back on track again. The company has not been able to achieve the target of sales that was given by Rena Koh.”

As for missed weddings, Lee admitted “there might be dresses that were late in delivery. However, since the day we have taken up the responsibility two weeks back, all shops across the nation are getting dresses and direct communication has been established. We have been non-stop sending out dresses since the day we have taken the direct control and we are here to help our customers. Please check around and they all know that Raymond Lee and Rena Koh have been working non-stop mostly 20 hours a day to keep up the dresses.”

Lee blamed some of Koh’s problems on bridal retailers, looking to cash in on the company’s difficulties: “There are some stores are taking advantages of the situation and simply of what they have done is not paying the overdue in hope that the company is in problem and they will not require to pay. I will start taking action to recover those money and yes, despite most of shops have been in to the for so long but, they just wanted to see the company will go bankrupt and they will no longer required to pay,” Lee said.

Lee urged brides who are having problems getting their dresses to contact him directly via email: raymond@sinar.com.

You can read Rena Koh’s entire official statement on this matter below.

So, what is the current situation of Rena Koh now? A handful of retailers now tell us they have been receiving Rena Koh dresses in the past week, although the shipments are spotty. Some are getting dresses, while other retailers report have not received their orders. As you can imagine, this is causing considerable heartburn for many retailers, who are trying to advise their brides whether they should wait for Koh gowns or order something else.

Raymond Lee told BRIDAL BARGAINS he had a “black list” of bridal retailers who are behind in their payments to Koh. On May 10, he promised to email that to us . . . but as of press time (a week later), we have not received it.
