Particularly, one that is not designed by the carseat manufacturer?
I saw a sheepskin carseat cover that has the slots in it for the carseat straps. Would this still be safe provided I take off the cover that comes on it to avoid too much bulk?
This is the one I was looking at:

http://www.amazon.com/SnuggleWool-Infant-Seat-Cover-Universal/dp/B000H46Z08/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1199130056&sr=1-4

Any thoughts?

After market covers and products are NOT recommended. They are not crash tested and no one has any idea if they would interfere with the proper function of the seat. Also, there is no such thing as a universal cover. All seats are different and there is no way to know for sure that the strap holes would even line up. You could call your carseat manufacturer or visit their website to get their official position (which is hopefully NO!!). I wouldn't do it.
