Hi,
Today I went to order my Colgate mattress at a nearby baby store. They don't carry the Classica I in stock so I had to order it. The sales staff there were really negative about this mattress! They said it is really firm (way too firm). When I mentioned that I had heard about the Consumer Reports on it, they said that it was only chosen number one because it is lightweight thus easier to change sheets. I also said it was highly recommended in Baby Bargains. Sheesh! By the time I left I felt really unsure of my decision. Did I make a mistake? Please, if you have this mattress let me know how you like it. Do toddlers like it too?

Thank you for any reassurance you can provide.

I have this mattress and I love it. I have heard a lot of people say that sales staff are really negative about this mattress and then try to sell a different mattress that costs a lot more. I thought it was really firm at first, but then I compared it to a coil mattress and it wasn't any more firm than a coil one. Luckily the place I bought it from carried them in stock and the sales person I had said what a good mattress it was or I probably would have had my doubts too.

I can't say whether toddlers like it too because my son is only 3.5 months old.

By the way, you will like how easy it is to change the sheets. I couldn't imagine having to change them on a heavy coil mattress.

Well, I've heard lots of similiar stories about retailers not wanting to sell a Classica. Bottom line... are any of the alternatives CHEAPER? Bet not....

We only had one dealer in our area carry Colgate, and it was the more expensive model than the Classica.... Go figure....

So we bought ours off of BabySupermall.com At the time they were running some sort of promo....

Baby isn't here yet but the mattress feels fine. Firm, yes, but if it meant putting him in a crib with plywood over the top of the mattress to help prevent SIDS, I'd do it.

Kids get used to whatever they sleep on... the comfort level will be fine!

Good luck,

Thanks Jennifer and TAC! I'm feeling much better now after reading your comments. I can't wait to set up my crib :)

We love ours! It felt really firm at first, but our little girl sleeps great on it. Don't second guess yourself. I've had nothing but fabulous experiences with everything the Fields' have recommended.
