I was just watching the Lifetime Real Women channel and saw a show called "Operation Style". They were updating a playroom for 4 preschoolers under 5 yrs old. I was amazed at how easily the designer taught the homeowner how to change her changing table into a bench. The only tools involved were a hand saw and screw driver. I really liked the idea of doing something with the changing table after your finished with it. (years away, but still useful) I believe the bench is a child's bench since the plywood is rather thin. Still, it's really cute in the end and they showed it at the end with stuffed animals on top and puzzles in the drawer.
I'm not at all crafty, but I think this is a very easy project.
Here's the instructions:
Cut the changing table in half with a saw. Cutting off the bottom shelf. If you have a drawer, keep the drawer and cut below it.
Insert "feet pegs" into the bottom of each leg. This will protect your floor. If you choose, you may add wheels instead.
Attach a piece of plywood with screws to the top of the table. This will be the seat. (have the store precut the plywood for you)
Add a piece of foam to the center of the changing pad. This will be
the seat cushion. Insert changing pad and foam into two king-size pillowcases. Each case put on in opposite direction to fully cover the pad.
