Okay, so I LOVE Janie and Jack and think the quality is exceptional and the clothes are adorable and all of that. But I just got another order yesterday, and what had seemed like a fluke now seems like a pattern. The box, the wrapping, and the clothes all reek of cigarette smoke! This is the third time I've noticed that. Are your Janie and Jack things smoky? Should I complain to J & J or to my delivery guy? I wash everything, anyway, but it does affect whether I want to continue to give this stuff as baby gifts, if the smokiness is coming from Janie and Jack. Please advise!

Rachel,

I think it must be the devlivery people. I just received an order from them 2 days ago and it did not smell like smoke nor has anything else I ordered from them. We do not smoke so I am very sensitive to the smell of cig smoke. I would maybe complain to both because
J&J needs to know if the stuff they are sending out is somehow arriving reaking of smoke. Now that you mention this I know whenever my in laws mail us something UPS it smells like smoke and they do not smoke, but none of my other packages do.

We get smoky stuff from both UPS and FedEx - both allow their drivers to smoke on the truck, and it often gets into the packages. USPS is smoke-free.

I only got one package from Janie and Jack, but I don't remember it being smoky. I do love that they pay return postage on any returns! Not that I'm returning anything, but it is nice to know!

Yuck! You would think if it was the driver smoking, then only the outside of the box would be smokey? The only packages that really smell smokey for us are the ones we receive directly from my MIL and that's because she smokes.

That is wierd. I usually buy my things at the store but I have bought a couple of things online when they didn't have the right sizes in the store and that hasn't happened to me. I do think it is a issue with the delivery service, but I would call Janie and Jack customer service and let them know about it anyway. Their customer service is great and I am sure that they would want to know and might be able to do something about it. The funny thing is that DH is in management at UPS. I will have to ask him about this and let you know if I find anything out.

Not my USPS! We have an awful mailman. He chain smokes, leaves cigarette butts on our lawn, and doesn't deliver the mail if the weather is yucky. I hate him.

Glad to know this isn't a Janie and Jack thing. I love Janie and Jack.

Really?? He's not supposed to smoke - it is against the rules for USPS mail-folks to smoke on the job! You could report him, if you wanted.

I guess we're really lucky. Our mail woman is WONDERFUL. She recently had surgery on her legs just after Christmas but actually called me on the phone to check on me because she had "promised Evan she would take care of me" and had asked a couple of the neighbors in the area (people I don't know) to drop by to check on me to make sure I was okay. She's a sweetheart. She stopped by yesterday to deliver a package and told me she wanted to be called when the baby was born. Well I admit that she's not really the first person I would call, but I thought that was so sweet anyway.

I just got my order today and it does not smell like smoke. Mine came Fedex.

I ordered from the unisex section, since I don't know what I am having. But the outfits I got are defintely girly. I got the side tie onsie and the striped one piece, both in soft jade stripes. They are beautiful, but the edging is scalloped and it really is not suitable for a boy. I wish the pictures showed better detail and were in color rather than black/white/grey. I didn't see the scalloped edging in the pictures.

I'm hoping for a girl anyway, so maybe this will work out. If not, they seem to have a great return policy.

Karen -
I also ordered the striped one piece, but in heather gray. The scalloped edging also surprised me a bit since it was in the unisex section. We do not know if we're having a boy or girl.

Here's hoping it works out for both of us!!

It is so funny that you mention that, because I, TOO, ordered the green striped onesie with the ties on the side since we don't know what we are having. I brought it home to show DH, and the first thing he said was that it looked "too girly"! :) However, I've decided that girl or boy, I like this soft little onesie (particularly that it has side ties since I know I'll be paranoid initially) and the kid is going to wear it whether DH likes it or not!:)

I ordered a blue outfit from them for DS which has the scallop edging. It really is not too girly especially since it it is for a baby boy, rather than a little boy.

I am attaching a scan of the pretty scalloped edge, if anyone wants to see it. It is beautiful detail. For a girl. :)
