My son is 11 1/2 months and is wearing 12-18 month clothing (GAP seems to fit pretty well). I bought a pair of Gymboree overalls in 12-18 month expecting them to fit pretty well with a little room to grow, but they are HUGE! Does Gymboree run that big?

Gymboree, in my experience does run big, yep. My DD is still wearing Gymboree Preemie clothes at almost 5 weeks and she wasn't a preemie! Baby Gap 0-3 seems to fit her already (barely). It also depends on your son's build...Gymboree supposedly fits long, thin kid best.

Drew wears the 12-18 mos in Gymboree right now, and he is only 10th percentile for weight and 50th for height. I have found that their cotton knits run much smaller than the twills. So, the overalls are much larger than the basic cotton onesies, t-shirts and rompers. Gymboree fits him well as he is fairly long and definitely thin. Their clothes are generally more narrow, but he still outgrows them lengthwise before widthwise. I tend to buy true to size in the knits and smaller in the dress pants and overalls. HTH,

In my experience so far, Gymboree does tend to run big. My DD is between the 10th and 20th percentile for weight and the 50th for height. I buy her overalls and one piece outfits based on her height so that they will be long enough. Most of her Gymbo overalls are very roomy and very long.

I agree, Gymbo seems to run on the big side. The overalls are often made to roll up at the cuffs so make sure you've got them on right. I also buy according to length so they'll fit. My kids are tall and skinny (they get it from Daddy!) so they outgrow length before weight. I almost never go by weight. Of course, this causes a problem sometimes in the waists being too big. The only items that I go up a size are the jammies. For example, Parker wears a size 7 from Lands'End but a 6 from Gymboree but I buy him a 7 in the jammies.

Gymbo is big on Nathan. I always buy a size smaller then what I buy in other clothes. He is 10% weight and less then 5% for height. My almost 13 month old still fits in some of his 3-6 month clothes.

Gymbo overalls are always very big. Julia at 26 months still fits into a pair of 12-18 month overalls that I bought a year ago. She has a newer pair of 18-24 month overalls that still swim on her. Yet I buy 3T shirts and 2T pants for her for everything else.

Gymboree does run bigger than other sizes (as other posters have said), word of warning, though that the newer lines (since Fall when they added the 9-12 size) run larger than even previous lines. So if you're thinking of hitting ebay, keep that in mind. DS has a pair of overalls in 12-18 from the racing line last year that he outgrew at ~10 months. However, a pair from the doggy wants a bone line also 12-18, fits great now, with still some room to grow.

I find that the onesies run much smaller than the overalls. My DS has outgrown the onesie and still had tons of growth in the matching overalls. I don't understand that.

Gymboree works well for DS, because he is very long and slim. At almost 5 months old, he is outgrowing his Baby Gap 3-6 month clothes, but is still fitting into his Gymboree overalls with some room left to grow. However, I have also had the experience of the matching onesies running smaller than the coordinating overalls. So strange!

Not sure, but this could be because:

1)the onsies are cotton knit which tends to shrink more than a woven cotton such as overalls would be made of

2)some babies tend to grow in their torsos faster than in their limbs

You know something that may help:

One step ahead offers little extenders for onsies:

Kind of a neat idea, I think.

Just some thoughts

Do the onesie extenders fit gymbo clothes? I have a set that I got at a local store, but have yet to have them work with any onesie I own. The one step ahead info didn't say it works with Gymbo, anyone have real-life experience with them?

I bought some extenders at my local childrens store. The brand on the extenders is I-play (and they were only $6 at the store). They came 3 to a pack and one size fits gap bodysuits, another fits gymbo and the 3rd fits some Hanna (I have two dif. turtle suits that have dif. size snaps).

Yes, Gymboree runs big.

My DS is almost 10 months old and wearing mostly 6-9 month clothing. Today he has on a Gymbo t-shirt (not a onesie) which is size 0-3 months. The other day I tried on a pair of Gymbo sweatpants, size 6-12 month and they were HUGE on him. He has a ton of Gymbo clothes in his closet at most of the 3-6 month pieces still fit him. Some of the onesie type shirts are getting too short, so I've had to move up to 6-12 months in those.

Gymboree seems to run a full size larger than most other brands. My older son is in a solid 4T/5T and he's still wearing a lot of 3T Gymboree shirts. He's still be wearing 3T pants too, but they are all too short for him. The 4Ts fit, but are a little big.

I find if you go by height(especially) and weight, gymbo clothes are right on the mark. As someone else said, gymbo changed the sizing last fall. DD's clearance clothes from last summer (18-24 mos) swim on her, but the new 18-24 are just a little big. Both charts are on the gymbohaven.com website.

Gymboree runs long and skinny - it's true to size for my DS (75% height; 10% weight). He typically wears one size ahead in Gap and Landsend, but not Gymboree or Janie&Jack (also owned by Gymboree). And he always outgrows clothes by length.
