View Full Version : Odd Sizing in Playdresses? - Help!
We're heading to FL for a few days and the temps are forecasted to be in he upper 70s :) so I pulled out a short sleeved playdress in 80 that Sarah was too small to wear last summer. I also pulled out another one in a 90 just to see the size difference, and the only difference I could see was that the 90 was maybe about a half to three quarters of an inch longer in the bodice. The widths, sleeve lengths, and lengths from the waist down were identical in both dresses. Neither has been washed, but I assume they'll shrink proportionally. I was expecting a considerable difference between the two sizes, but I just don't see it. I'm thinking the 80 is the right size and the 90 is off a bit. The only factor I can think of that might explain it (other than the sizing just being off) is that the 80 is the baby style with a diaper cover and the 90 is the toddler style, but both have the three buttons down the front. Any ideas? Also, do the short sleeved dresses tend to run longer than the long sleeved ones? Where should they fall? I know they shrink a lot, but there is a four inch difference in length between the LS 80 (washed) and the SS 80 (unwashed). I called CS, but all they said is that the 90 should be bigger all around than the 80, and that I was welcome to return either one.
Whew! I can't believe I've written all this about a dress, but I know many of you will understand . . . :)
TIA,

I don't have any 90s to compare but I can tell you that Amy Grace is the same age as Sarah and she is wearing an 80 right now with a bit of growing room still. Also, the dresses will definitely shrink. HTH!
Thanks, Denise. Sarah is wearing an 80 in the long sleeved dress, and she has plenty of growing room. (I think she is shorter than Amy Grace.) I wanted to make sure there should be more of a difference between the 80 and 90 so I'll know what size to order come spring. Unless she hits a growth spurt, Sarah will be in 80s for a while yet, so I probably keep both dresses.

I ordered the Snowflake Dress in an 80 for Eva and it fit her perfectly. I ordered a L/S Playdress I went ahead and ordered a 90 since it was pretty late in the season (we live in the south) and I wanted it to fit her next year as well. I would say the dress fits her fairly well; we roll the sleeves once and she has a ton of growing room. This is our first playdress so I don't have an 80 to compare it to. Eva is 33 inches tall and weighs 26 pounds. Here are a couple of pictures of her in the 90 playdress:

Veronica, Eva and Amy Grace are exactly the same size! I have been planning to buy 90s for this summer so I'm glad to see how they fit on Eva. As a matter of fact, the one dress I bought at last year's sale is a 90 and I was looking at it today...I just love it and can't wait for her to wear it! :)
Veronica--Thanks for posting pictures. Eva is a doll, and it's nice to see how the 90 fits her.

Denise,
I had no idea Amy Grace and Eva were the same size. That is good to know so when I see all the pictures of AG I will know exactly how the clothes will fit Eva too! Are you buying 2T for Spring and Summer? The only Spring outfit I have bought so far is the GWL cropped jeans and the hot pink pea shirt. Those were 2T and seem to fit well.

I'm planning to buy 2T for late spring & summer. For early spring (starts in early March here...there too?), I have bought 18-24mos. Wonder if I need to change that? The Gymbo clothes that I showed pics of (GWL & DW) are all 18-24mos and seem to fit nicely now. I figure that she's got a few more months in that size and by then it'll be hot and she'll be ready for summer clothes. Do you think I should change those? I wasn't planning on her wearing those items after spring.

My dd who is 34lbs and 36 inches is now just growing out of her size 90 playdresses. We have two, both in size 90 and the difference in size is crazy...like three or four inches in length. So much so that the other day I rechecked the labels to make sure they were the same size!! The one dress she can still wear as a dress and the other is like a long shirt. Both from the same season but in different colors. So I think there is a big variation in their actual sizes.

Yes, spring does begin around March here although there are times in the dead of winter that it can be 75 degrees. I am sure you know what I mean! So I pretty much have to have short sleeves available year round. You know I really struggled with what size to buy for early spring, but I ultimately decided on 2T because Eva got a lot of wear out of her early spring clothes from last year. Actually, almost a year later I still put her whale watching outfits on her to wear around the house. The 18-24 stuff looks great on AG though. And if she won't wear it past spring you shouldn't need to buy any larger size.

That really annoys me! When you pay as much money as you do to get Hanna clothing, the sizing ought to be consistent! Grrr.
