ok, so during our heat wave this last week, i discovered that DS now refuses to wear hats. we had him wearing one outdoors last summer when he was a newborn. with our mild winters here, he hasn't really needed a hat since late fall. well, live and learn.

now that he is almost 9 mos, i've probably already created a nightmare, but any suggestions for teaching him to wear one?? he is very fair and i really want him to be comfortable wearing them by this summer.

any ideas?? if they don't tie on, he just rips it off immediately. if i use the flappy type with the tie he is indignant and letting me know the whole time it's on.

thanks,
lori

I bought hats with ties (not velcro since they would rip those right off). I couldn't find DS a flap hat with a tie so I bought some material and sewed one on. I waited until we got outside when they were distracted to put on the hats and most of the time they forgot all about them. If they took them off, I kept putting them back on and distracted them with something else. If all failed, which didn't happen that often, I would just put on the sunblock or stayed in the shade. DS in particular is very fair as well and I worried about him burning. They outgrew that phase, and now at times DS will wear one all day, inside and out. A couple of weeks ago he refused to take it off after a walk and ended up taking his bath with it on (ah, toddlers!)
