I think we're actually going to trade a few of the duplicate items from the shower in for a Safety 1st Video monitor so DH can set it up and we can test it before he leaves. I've read all the posts about this monitor (some hate it, some love it) and just wanted to know if anyone had any more recent reviews.

We are also needing to replace our cordless phone at the same time, and since the video monitor is 2.4, assumed we should probably stick with the 900 mhz. I know they have come out with 5.8 but 1. they're way too expensive, and 2. I've heard it's just a mix of 2.4 and 5.8 so would probably still cause interference.

Any other thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about interference; just about any decent 2.4GHz phone will select channels automatically to avoid interfering with another device.

Another thought on video monitoring; you can go to somewhere like x10.com and pick up an inexpensive camera and receiver combo that you could attach to your TV(s), and then just hit the TV remote to switch inputs and look in on the baby. I prefer that approach to the dedicated video monitor one.
