View Full Version : Thinking I should get a baby doll for Sophie

Jonathan thinks that we should start introducing Sophie to a baby doll. The thing is they all really creep me out.
Does it HAVE to be realistic? Can't it just be a rag doll of some sort? I saw a cute Madeleine one at Target today, but it had a hard hat on it. I need something toddler proof.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

How about this doll from babystyle. We don't have one, but I think it is pretty cute. I know there have been posts about it before.

Also, I think Russ has some cute soft dolls.

I don't want to push my business in this forum, or anyone to think I'm spamming, so I'll let you know that you DON'T have to get it from me, but Discovery Toys has a really cute kid-proof doll called Softly Sarah that is really cute. It's a rag doll. You can get clothes for it too, but they are really easy to manipulate. I only mention it because Katherine seemed to really take to it, or at least like it enough to slobber all over.
If you want to see a picture, let me know offline at bethann 31 @ bellsouth . net. (without spaces, obviously)or go to the discovery toys website.

Oooh. I think I found it. What about a Raggedy Ann?
Safe for a toddler? The TRU site says 2+ years...

The Russ dolls are VERY cute. Here's a thread where I posted about them:

We got an Eden doll for our baby for Christmas. She's 8 months now, and really likes looking at it's face and tossing it around. The dolls are completely soft, and you can just throw them in the wash. I checked these dolls out because so many people had said that their babies love them and that they stay looking good for years.
Actually, I got 2 dolls at the same time, so if she gets really attached, I'd be able to switch it out and wash it. That was a recommendation from another parent. And they're so inexpensive you can get two for under $20 (depending on the style). I bought the Eden Terry Girl Baby Doll. It's the softest thing you've ever seen.
Here's a page with all the Eden dolls. I think the Thermal Baby is a best seller:

Marissa,
I am so glad I am not the only person creeped out by realistic looking dolls. I second the Ragedy Ann doll. When I eventually break down and buy Eva a doll (I am still holding out) I may choose the same one!

Veronica-
I don't know what it is, but I can't seem to stomach buying Sophie a doll. She LOVES her stuffed animals, but Jonathan feels we should get her a "baby" before the real one comes next December.
I am sooo creeped out by them.
I'm thinking I might do the Madeleine AND the Raggedy Ann.
I went to the most crappy KB Toys last night (didn't feel like driving another 10 minutes for the TRU "experience"). Walked in and walked out. It was filthy and overwhelming. Not good when you're already nauseous 90% of the time.

I guess I can see his point about the new baby. I don't know about you, but I was creeped pout by realistic looking dolls long before I had Eva. I'm a bit ashamed to admit this but the doll thing actually crossed my mind a few days after finding out we were having a girl.
That being said, I think both the Madeline and Ragedy Ann are great choices especially since she really likes stuffed animals. I have always liked the look of the Madeline dolls and I loved reading the books as a child. Eva is the same way, she becomes giddy when she gets her hands on any of her stuffed animals.
I think our local KB Toys closed recently. I never liked to go in there because it always seemed overcrowded and generally "crappy." I guess other people felt the same way because they are closed down now. I don't know about you, but the more I shop online, the less tolerant I am about shopping for specific items in B&M stores. Maybe you can find a decent deal online?

Amazon has both dolls, but by the time I pay shipping, I might as well go see if TRU has them first. ;)

As a community member I'd love to see it so I officially am asking if you'll post it and share it!!!!
And you are clearly a community member so I'd hate to see anyone ever say you're spamming...
I have my childhood doll and have brought it out for Tristan so I'm not in the market for a doll (yet) but I'd love to see what you are talking about...
Please share!!!!
