Hi,

DS who will be 3 next week is having a small birthday party. One of the guests will be a 10 year old girl. Any recommendations for a party favor/goody bag? For the 3 year olds, I have travel magna doodles, stickers, candy... Do 10 year olds still play with barbies or polly pockets?

Thanks!

Monica

I'd stuff her bag with craft stuff or new school supplies(which are cheap this time of year!). Maybe some cool stickers and gel pens. Anything pastel or sparkly. You know, the stuff that mom always puts back when you go back to school shopping and then she buys you plain yellow #2 pencils. :P

When I was 10 we liked playing cards or UNO. We also played chinese jacks and regular jacks (with the ball). I still see them all the time in grocery and drug store toy sections. Those are cheap and easy to find. Or you can get a travel video game like handheld poker. I love those! They have a big selection at KB's. Other thoughts are yummy lip gloss/chap stick like Bonne Belle or sparkly lotion. You can give the candy and stickers to her too. I think she is too old for Barbies though I could be totally wrong. That's all I can think of.

How about anything having to do with Lizzy McGuire (played by Hillary Duff). She's very popular right now in that age group of 8-12 year olds. Here's a bunch of stuff from the Birthday Express website:

Look on the column on the right hand side for a bunch of favor ideas. I really like the mini photo albums, wall decorations, and lip gloss. I'm only 23 and still remember when I was 10, but 10 year olds now act a lot more teenage-like.

How about a craft kit of some sort? WE just bought a 9 year old a kit for her to design her own purse. Everything was included.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas! I couldn't believe I drew such a blank, but once I read some of the ideas, I thought how perfect, and I should have thought of that! Sigh, it may be an indication of how long it has been since I was 10 :-)

My dd is 8 1/2 and I always head to Claires (accessory store in the malls) for great deals on little bracelets, anklets, necklaces, lip glosses, mood rings, you name it, they've got it. I stuff mine with all the bargain items that they always have one sale. (usually 10 items for $5) Last year, my dd's goody bags had tons of stuff. The little girls were so excited!!!

You've probably already shopped but I thought I'd give my 2 cents... I have an 11 y/o stepdaughter. She is very into gel pens, ANYTHING from Claires (as mentioned in a previous post) cheap journals (I get them in the kids section on clearance at Marshalls/TJ Maxx), sparkly nail polish (though I'd check with her mom on this) all things manicure related, "smell goods" (lotion, shower gel etc), headbands, and cheap sparkly picture frames. HTH if you haven't already gone. You could get tons of stuff she'd like at a dollar store.
