Looking for a good thermometer

Wondering if anyone can recommend a good thermometer for 11 month old. I was curious about those ones you use in the ears...Thanks!

I have always heard ear thermometers aren't that accurate (though they use them at our doctor's office). I have had a temporal artery scanner by Exergen since DS was born and I love it. We use it on all of us. It is fast and accurate. You can find them all over the place now.

Okay, this may be a dumb question, but how do you use something like this? Where is the temporal artery? (We're still using the rectal thermometer method here, but of course, it's not practical when she's not in the middle of a diaper change.)

I have been pleased with Braun Thermoscan. I know, I know - everyone says ear thermometers are not as accurate but I can always tell when my babies have temps & our thermometer has always been very close to the doctor's. I don't remember what age you can start using it so I take my 5 month old's temp. under the armpit with a digital one for now.

You just scan across half of the forehead (starting in the middle) and stop on the side of the forehead when it beeps rapidly. Then you read it. The whole process takes maybe 5 seconds. I usually do it 2 or 3 times on both sides of the forehead just to double check! I have also heard you can do right behind the earlobe (on the neck) but I haven't had as much luck with that.

I have this, too, and love it.

They have them at Walmart now for about $35. I paid $50 or so when they first came out at BRU.
