Converted Crib...Now What?

How do I get him to stay in it? We converted ds's crib this weekend to a toddler bed. We haven't had any problems with him falling out since I rolled up towels and put them under the sheet at the edge of the mattress. My problem is getting him to stay IN his bed at nap. I had planned to go buy bedrails this afternoon thinking that it might be enough to encourage him to stay in his bed, but now I've read that they don't work with beds without box springs.

What else can I do?
