MIL is asking us to pick up a carseat so that she can take DD for shopping when MIL watches her, and I am having difficult time choosing one... The height limit for the convertible seats we currently own is 40", and I am wondering if it's a good idea to get another convertible seat for MIL's car, since DD is already 34" tall... Is it a waste of money if there is only 6 inches to go? Should we get a forward-facing only seat with higher height limit?

TIA!

Well, the top height limit is really a guideline...you can use the seat till her shoulders are *just* over the top slots and might find she's as much as 42 inches or more (depening on if she's all torso or all leg, it'll be anywhere from 38-43 inches, even!).

Still, yay to you for knowing the limits of your seat! :)

I would look at a harnessed boooster/combo seat that has higher top slots, though, like the Graco Ultra or Platinum Cargo, or the Evenflo Chase or Vision or Traditions...whichever one grandma will use properly (harness tightened snug as a hug) for every trip and whichever fits best in her car :)

Thank you so much for your suggestions, Julie!! I looked at them on the web, and I like the Graco platinum cargo! DD is a long torso baby, so a carseat with 54" height limit will definitely be better than another convertible seat. I want to check them in baby/toddler bargains book at home (I'm at work) before placing the order though.

Again, thank you very much for your help! You are wonderful!!

:)
Try Babies R Us or Toys R Us...they are having a 15% off coupon right now on all seats, and the newest Platinum Cargo has EPS foam in the head area and Memory foam in the bum, so it's quite cushy, and comes out to $85+ tax

Good luck!
