I went to the doctor's office for my son's 6 month visit and found out that he is over 20 pounds and that I need a new car seat that can still be rear facing for the next 6 months but will accommodate over 20 pounds.

The one caveat here is that I do not have a car and only use the seat once a week when we use a Zipcar (community car) to go to the grocery store. I need something that I can carry back and forth and easily install the base as I can't leave the base in the community car. We were using the Peg Perego Prima Viaggio and loved it. Any suggestions on solid, safe, but easily installed car seats that can accommodate my growing son?

Thanks in advance!

The Britax Roundabout is exceptionally easy to install and use properly. The LATCH is much like your Primo Viaggio, with the separate connectors with a push-button...or, when use rearfacing in the center seat, there are slits in the cover so you can super-duper easily route the belt through the belt path without having to peel back the cover and tediously work the seatbelt under it. It's not the lightest seat, but the top tether is shaped like a carry-strap, so you can carry it on your shoulder easily like a massive purse, lol.
The Marathon or Decathlon or Wizard are also great choices, but given your situation, they are a bit heavier and bigger and you probably don't really want to wrestle with them all the time like that.
The Cosco Touriva or Regal Ride is THE lightest convertible seat, and installs beautifully in the vast majority of cars. But it is super light and fairly low on extras, so it may not appeal to you as much. It's simple and light and I love it for those facts, though.

Good luck!
