Hi! I'm looking at infant car seats and I'm pretty sure that I want to get the PP Primo Viaggio at this point. I have a 2000 Land Rover Discovery and I'm wondering if the seat will fit properly in my car.

I looked at the car seat database and there is only one entry for this particular combination (or PPPV and LR Discovery in general). The single entry claims that it does not fit in the center, but it doesn't say if a certified tech checked the installation or if the seat would fit properly on the side (is the term "outboard?" - I'm definitely a newbie when it comes to the lingo).

While I'm wary of buying a seat that one person claims didn't work for their car, I'm also not going to base my decision on just one person's experience, either.

Any Discovery/PPPV owners out there? Julie, have you had any experience with this particular combination? (Also, is there a better seat for a Discovery, in your opinion?) My next step is to contact the Land Rover dealership and my local firestation, but I thought I'd check here first.

Thanks in advance for any input!

I don't see why it *wouldn't* fit, really... Do you have a BRU near enough to you that you can try seats out in your car? (or a better baby store, they usually just want a driver's license so you can take the floor model out to your car).

I think I've only ever installed Snugrides in the Landrovers, and if you have a lap-only belt in the middle, the snugride might be a better seat (well, Im biased towards snugrides in general...I've had better luck installing them in most cars with less work...but only because I'm a whiz at using locking clips with lap/shoulderbelts, lol).

It's possible that if it didn't fit, that they didn't try the seat using a rolled towel or cut pool noodle or carseat leveler *instead of* the dialing recline foot in the base. Often when the recline mechanism doesn't work, the towel or noodle will do the trick.

One thing that's an unusual problem with that seat base in a few cars I've tried is that it levitates off the seat when you dial the recline down...since you wan't at least 80 percent of the base touching the vehicle seat cushion, that's kind of a huge problem.

Sorry, I'm going into a major stream of consciousness here...Long story short: Try it before you buy it, or make sure you can return it, and find a tech in your area to help you out if possible
www.seatcheck.org
www.seatcheck.net
www.nhtsta.dot.gov all have tech locators you can use.

Good luck!

PS, the main reason I rather favor the Snugride is that you can leave the handle up when driving...with the PP you have to take the time to put it down. I was always too lazy to do that with my old Century seat, so just risked my dd's head slamming into the bar (they told me to put it down, but I didn't believe them...needless to say, I wasn't a tech yet!)

Thanks for your input, Julie! I think I'm about to drive myself crazy with The Great Infant Car Seat Search of 2005!

I think my hangup is that I want to balance safety (a seat that properly fits my car and offers the best protection) with "vanity" issues - having a seat that matches my stroller and is designed to fit in my stroller perfectly. I really like the P3 in Metallica and I wonder if it's going to look weird/not fit as well with a Snugride or Companion, the other seat I'm looking into at the moment.

I'm not due until late June so I still have time to decide (ie, drive myself more nuts!).

I really, really appreciate your input! Thanks!

You know...The Metropolitan snugride looks really good in the Metallica stroller.... ;)

The Great Infant Car Seat Search of 2005!

ROFL!!

Well, keep your eyes peeled...the "perfect" seat might just be released before your baby is ;)

Oh, and the Britax Preview stroller IS really nice...very sturdy, with comfy ergonomic foam handles...I DO love the P3, though...tough call! Zooper Swing...LOVE the Zooper Swing, too... Car seats are *nothing* compared to finding the right stroller, lol. I work in a baby store where you get to "make your own travel system" and most people get so freaked by the dozens of strollers, that they just break down and buy the Bugaboo Frog to lessen their anxiety level.

:)
