View Full Version : What to do with RF Latch installed MA?

WE have a RF Ma latch installed in our 2003 Explorer behind the passenger seat (the only place it fits RF, we tried in the middle with the seatbelt but my husband couldn't drive with the carseat). We don't have it tethered because we can't figure out where to attach the tether (have looked and looked but can't find anything to attach it to).

Should I install it using the seatbelt in light of the CR crash tests as it seems that the latch is the problem not the MA?????

The latch installation seems very very tight but I'm concerned. If it helps, my DD is only 23 pounds (22 months) so she isn't at the upper end of the weight limits like the dummies in the crash tests were.

Should we change our installation?

P.S. I was happy to see that my other seat that I only spent 28.88 on (Touriva) did well!)

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about the LATCH install, honestly...the seat may overrecline by a few extra degrees with the heaviest dummies, but there is still no danger of children being ejected or injured because of the extra recline. Also, the tests don't involve real cars with real front seatbacks to hinder overrotation...it would be nice if they'd toss a few seats into real crashtesting cars sometimes!

I would VERY seriously climb down there and tether that seat, though, as they strongly recommend it in the manual...here's a page with pictures, though Britax has gotten wishy washy about using a tether point on the same seat as the marathon is installed, so find something under the front seats http://www.angelfire.com/wa3/isakswings/ratetherrf.html
