I was just wondering if anyone knows what the deal is with the new Snugrides (or as I've heard them called before, the "Snugride 2's"). I went into Target today to see what they had in the way of infant seats and they had this one
http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_2/602-5801830-2196619?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B00061UNT6
in the 22lbs - 29 inches version
So does anyone know, are they planning on eventually changing all of the Snugrides to those weight/height limits? Or just certain ones? We'd like to go ahead and get my friend her shower gift (car seat/stroller but we want to get one of the new and improved of course... so I guess we shall wait for now!) As far as I can see none of the travel systems come with the new ones so it looks like she'll be getting the Safety 1st Acella LX stroller and a Snugride 2... with front adjuster! (thank you Julie!!) :O)
Oy... they make these things SO dang difficult!!

They are all 22 pounds now, some are listed as Snugride 2's, and some aren't...and the 20 pound ones are still on the shelves until they are sold, making it even more confusing!!!! (not to even get into outdated floor models not being the same as the seats still in boxes.... or the website not even being updated...)
All I can say is, check the box before you buy the seat.
:)
Good luck, what a great shower gift! :)

Julie is right. You just have to check the box. The stores don't know what's going on, still have the 20s on the shelf and described in the tag on the shelf, but then you get the box and it's a 22.
My sister got hers in June and out of sheer luck it was a 22. It was from BRU where they still had the 20s on display.

Thanks girls!! This helps so much!
Hopefully now we can get her the pattern she really wants :O)
I noticed what you said about the store models... Target had their one store model (the link I showed) listed as the bigger limits, but that was the only I saw that they actually had in the size on the floor, so maybe they are changing their signs as they get them in (would be nice!). But Toys R US had all the old floor models and signs still out and of course they don't have the boxes just sitting there so you can't check to see! It really is a pain...
But thank you... now that I know they're changing them all I have NO problem sending a clerk back to the back to rummage for a bigger seat :O)
Thanks again!

I just ordered my new snugride from www.elitecarseats.com and to my surprise I got the one with the newer height/weight limitations. I was expecting to get the former model because I got such a good deal on it.
I got the metropolitan fabric with the Gracopedic Foam for 119.99.
I am THRILLED with mine and yes the new measurements were on the outside of the box.
Good Luck!

You lucky dogs to get the bigger seats with no additional effort. I shopped long and hard for a bigger one back in early July. I didn't find any in brick-and-mortar stores here in Portland, and thought I found one online at babycenter.com. I ordered it, it arrived, and it had the old limits on the box and inside. So I returned it and they sent another one. Again the wrong seat. So they eventually figured out that Graco had mislabeled the shipment, and they didn't actually have any of the bigger seats. They told me to keep the smaller one at no charge, and they would send me the bigger one when it became available. The bigger one is still not available on their site (except in the Metropolitan fabric, which I don't particularly like), and they haven't refunded me the money so I can look for one elsewhere. I think I'll call them Monday to see what's going on.
In the mean time, bebe is now 2 months and 24.5 inches. How exactly do the height limits work for the SnugRide? Is it an inch below the top of the shell, even with the top of the shell, or what? I've read conflicting info.

For infant seats, it's the head being no closer than one inch to the top of the seat shell. For convertible seats, it's head even with the top. :)
Wow, that sucks they haven't gotten you a seat sooner! They've been out with the new limits for so long! :P Does that place have any other bigger seats? Like the Chicco Key Fit or Compass infant seat? Those are nice....

Well, I double-checked my paperwork and called their customer service number, and they have in fact refunded me the money (it just didn't show up in my online account summary). So now we're debating whether to buy another bucket in the bigger size to get another 4-5 months of use out of it (it is convenient when running in to drop no. 1 off at school, or when bebe wants to sleep at church). What are the best online sources for Snugride2s? I want one with all the features we've currently got in the G Collection seat--front harness adjust, GracoPedic foam, etc.
