We're expecting our first in mid-July, and I am completely overwhelmed by the choices in car seats. I've been looking at the Graco SafeSeat, the Chicco KeyFit, and some of the Combi seats. I drive a 2005 Honda Accord sedan, and my husband has a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

I like the SafeSeat because it has a higher weight limit, but everyone here seems to love the KeyFits. How do the Combi seats stack up against these and which model is best?

Thanks, in advance, for any help you can offer! I am really starting to stress out about this particular purchase.

Any of them should fit and work just fine in those cars :).

Here's my dd in all of them... http://picasaweb.google.com/joolstag/LeahInCarseats They are all great, but the harness is easiest to use on the Key Fit, the Safeseat is second easiest to use, and the combis...umm... not as easy, just kind of trickier here and there to use (like the centre has a puzzle buckle that's a pain to work with, the connection harness tends to get stuck in the harness slots...) We still use the Safeseat now at 14.5 months, she outgrew the Key Fit a couple months ago, and we still need the convenience of an infant seat (older siblings to drive to extracurricular activities so it's nice she can keep napping sometimes, plus we travel a bit, and it's easier to bring an infant seat on a plane than a convertible... if we didn't have a hectic schedule, we'd be fine with a convertible now).

Thanks, Julie! Your daughter is so adorable (and very patient... that's a lot of seats :)!

I thought I read somewhere that Chicco may be coming out with a new infant seat that goes up to the higher weight limit like the SafeSeat. Do you know if there's any truth to that? The ability to use the seat longer would be a huge plus for the SafeSeat... plus, my husband is 6'2" and I expect our son to favor him size-wise. We're not due until mid-July, so I can wait a bit if a better Chicco is on the horizon.

Yes, it's true, it will go to 30 pounds, but it won't be any taller than it is now :(. So a tall kid might make it 9-12 months in the Key Fit, but will probably still make it 12-15 months on the Safeseat (or longer, but I've heard of a couple 1 year olds too tall for it, so I don't want you to be too disappointed if it doesn't last 18-24 months like it really does for most kids, lol).
