Is the britax companion seat really safer than the others. If money was no object which infant seat would you buy.

Chicco Key Fit or Graco Safeseat 1. Those are by far the easiest to install and use, in that order (KF is shorter, but gets kids to about a year unless they hit 22 pounds really young, SS1 is taller, lasts to 18-24 months, but slightly lesser quality...not that it's bad, the KF is just more... solid and European, for lack of a better description). I *hated* my Companion. (I'm sure it's *safe*, but it's a royal pain to use properly).

I HATED my Companion too - I have a 6 wk old and just bought her a Roundabout. The C was way to hard to deal with.

Go w/ one of Julies suggestions!!!

The Graco SnugRide passed all of CR's enhanced crash tests. The SafeSeat didn't. The SnugRide is very light, and incredibly easy to install if you use the Latch system. I know you said money is no object, but in this case, the cheap SnugRide has safety as well so I see no reason not to recommend it. Cheap and safe. No wonder it's a best seller.

I can totally see the appeal of SafeSeat and its 30 pound weight limit, but I like the light weight of the SnugRide and how many other products will accept a SnugRide.

After my kid outgrows the SnugRide, we'll stick him in a convertible like one of the Britaxes or a Recaro Young Sport. Maybe a Radian.

The snugride is incredibly difficult to install in European and Japanese cars in the center with retractable lap/shoulderbelts, that alone is reason enough to list it third. If they'd toss a locking clip on the base and discontinue the models with rear adjusters, I'll start recommending it tops again.

Consumer Reports retracted their accidentally poor testing results :)

The Recaro Young Sport is not a convertible. The Como or Signo are (yet another reason to love the Safeseat, it fits most kids to 18-24 months, and keeps kids rearfacing much longer for people who DO skip convertibles..not saying you will, but most people think you have to go straight from an infant seat to a forward facing seat...)

I didn't like my Companion, either, but only because it made my son too hot. He drenched the seat so that I moved him into a convertible at 3 months, even though he could've used it for another couple of months. If I had to do it over, I'd look seriously at the Keyfit... though it's not compatible with my stroller.

CR's retracted the results of that crash testing, including some potential installation issues, so one should not take ANY of the results to mean that one carseat is safer than another.

That is why they always say that the safest car for you is the one that fits you, your child, and you car. And that you can install correctly EVERY TIME.
