I didn't realize it was going to be available in Canada. It says up to 65lbs, I didn't think Transport Canada had approved anything over the 47/48lbs?

So is this just like when the Evenflo Triumph was in the Sears catalogue a few years ago and it didn't arrive in Canada for a few years later??

This is a communication from a contact in TC

"The Radian is coming into Canada but not to the 65 lbs maximum limit. Canadian definitions do not allow that - we can only go to 48 pounds with an internal harness."

TC apparently is looking into changing regulations where 48 lbs in the highest weight for harness seats. But it's not as easy as it may seem - not only does the CRS standards need to be changed, but also the standards for tethers and UAS. It might be a long haul, but at least they are making moves to changing that.

I don't know specifically about the Radian (though, great news if its here!).

From speaking with the TC "rep" a few months ago and checking out the regulations for myself, the issue is in the Act and the Regulations. They actually need a legislative amendment to change the definition of child restraint to 65 or 80 lbs or whatever number over 48lbs. That's the problem. They have draft legislation in the works, but as you can expect, with 2 minority gov'ts in a row, its not exactly a high priority.

Personally, I would have absolutely NO PROBLEM whatsoever using the Radian over 48lbs in Canada.

Have you heard anything about the Regent coming north?

Also, how does the Radian compare to the Regent for top slot height? I can't find it on the carseat measurement list.

Thanks!

The Canadian Britax rep didn't say that the Regent would be available anytime soon. Common sense tells me this would be so as well since no harnessed seats could be certified for more than 48 lbs and it would take yrs to change legislature. It just does not make any marketing sense for Britax to invest ($$$) in testing and certifying the Regent for Canada at this time, imho.

I'll check on the Radian and Regent top harness slots for you. My suspicion is the Regent has higher top slots though.

Ohh, I'd also love to know the answer to this.

We're getting close to the top of our MA and while another $200 is a lot to choke on, it's nice to know that there could be another possibility out there.

Melissa,

Congrats on the baby girl!! :-)

My cousin is expecting her second dd in December. Please pass along any good girly stuff you find locally - I'm always stuck in the boys section :D

I've been burned by 'coming soon' seats so many times, I'm just not going to expect this seat to arrive while I have a use for it.

I thought it would be great for 3 across in dh's car. But I heard that the slot heights are similar to the MA. Both my girls are about an inch away from being even with them at only 39 & 41lbs.

Seeing as we already have 2 US seats, we're not above going South for our needs :D

However, it would be nice to have other choices than the Marathon. And would be perfect if the weight limits are ever extended. One can dream, right?

Just spoke with their online CS. Delay is due to overseas shipping. No mention of delays due to TC.

Tick tock tick tock!
