(x-posted in Car Seats)

We're going to be travelling to NY as soon as my immigration goes through, and I'm trying to work out the carseat situation in advance, while I have time...

R is just about out of his Snugride, and rather than travel with the (very heavy) Triumph we already have, I was wondering if there was a place we could rent a SafeSeat for a few weeks? Does anyone know?

Petra, are you near Vancouver? I found this company the does baby gear rentals - http://www.weetravel.ca/home.shtml - maybe it's worth calling to see what they stock?

It's looking like their seats are a minimun of $42 a week, so since we'll be travelling for at least 3 weeks, it's no better than bringing our own...

I'm going to canvas our friendw w/ kids, maybe someone has something that'll do. I forget what the limits on our Snugride were...my mind is shot :)

How would you feel about buying a new seat and then selling after you get back? At least that way you'd know the seat was new, clean, well cared for and not been in a crash.

The Cosco Scenera is a great light seat that fits well in a lot of vehicles. In Canada it's about $90-100.00 at Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire (they call it the Regal Rider). But, if you're okay using a US seat, you can get it for around $40.00US at Wal-Mart and Target. Might have trouble selling it here though.

Unless you want to replace the current infant seat with the SafeSeat for longer use when at home as well, then it's not worth buying the SafeSeat just for travelling, imo.

And I doubt if rental places would have new seat like the SafeSeat.

I think if he already outgrowing his current infant seat, then maybe the Scenera would be a good choice as a travel and/or secondary seat (or even as the primary seat, if it suits your car, baby and budget). Even if you are to buy it in Canada (and not worry about the hassle of selling it afterward or using a non-Canadian seat).
