Hi, I have a 13 month old who will soon be starting day school 2 mornings a week. During that time he will not get a morning nap. I was wondering if the other 3 days I should switch him to just an afternoon nap for consistency? His sleep schedule is he goes to bed at 7pm, generally wakes at 7:30am and then takes a morning nap for an hour and then one in the afternoon for about an hour. Lately, though, he has been fighting both naps and barely sleeping! I am wondering if he is at the stage when only 1 nap is needed??

Thanks!

Amira did switch to one nap at around 13 month, and her schedule is basically wake up 7:30, eat play etc until around 12:30 or 1, sleep til 2:30 or 3 and eat play ect until bath and bed. That seems to work best fro us, but sometimes she does need a morning nap as well...usually I can tell and just put her down...But one good 2 hours nap seems to really do the trick and seems to help her sleep well(sometimes!) at night!

My boys switched around 14 months or so. I found that when they started fighting the afternoon nap, they were ready to drop to one nap. Also they started sleeping later in the mornings which made the transition easier (and was a nice bonus for me!). I would say since you have to drop the morning nap for those two days and he seems to be fighting the naps in general, try to transition him down to one. When I was getting rid of the morning nap, I found it best to get out of the house in the morning-that way the forgot they were tired!

That sounds like a good idea. I think I will try that!

Thank you!
