Am thinking of having DH set this up for me before he leaves. I'm soooo worried about her falling out of bed and it's a long way to the floor from our high bed, with wooden side rails she'd hit on the way down.

Question though, if we did this, do we just put the mattress down or the mattress and boxspring? And if we jsut put the mattress down, i guess the question of where to put the boxspring comes up.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE cosleeping with her, but the technicalities of it and making sure it's safe is a pain in the butt. I am always afraid to leave her alone in the room (even though she's not even rolling over yet, I'm more afraid of when she STARTS to roll over). So it's more of I'm afraid of the near future when she will be more mobile and likely of falling out higher. And even though I do have a monitor going when I do leave the room, the problem is I have a white noise machine in there, so it's hard to hear properly through the monitor because you hear white noise mostly.

Anyway, just wanted some ideas and to hear how others dealt with the cosleeping issues.

Put the mattress on the floor. Use the boxspring too, if that does not make it too high.

I don't have that option since we have a waterbed. But when I am not in the bed with her, I put her in the crib.

I agree. We have our mattress and boxspring on the floor, and it's a good setup. Even once she rolls over, it will be a while before she can scooch herself off the bed, though. I put a pillow or bolster on the far side of Abigail, and that worked fine for months and months. Now I've got her crib mattress on the floor between our bed and the wall, and she naps there. I actually wish I'd thought of that much sooner. I don't have to be there for her to sleep and for me not to worry. She starts her nights on her little bed now, too.

You won't miss having your bed on a bedframe. It's tremendous peace of mind.

We have mattresses on the floor in ds's room (they pretty much cover the floor) because he moves around a ton at night. Would not be safe with him otherwise.
