Right before I put Kieran to bed I laid him down to change his diaper and noticed that the soles of his feet had lots of red spots all over them. They weren't anywhere else on his body, just his feet. We're both sick so this concerns me. Anyone had anything like this happen?
Edit:
PLEASE READ MY POST BELOW REGARDING COUGH....THANKS

I am not one hundred percent certain, but I believe that red pinprick spots on the soles of feet can be a symptom of hand, foot, and mouth disease (coxsakie).
Here's a link to webmd with info about the illness. Best wishes, I hope your little one (and you!) feel better soon.

yep, sounds like coxsackie to me too. we just went through this. the feet were the first to show up. she never got spots on her hands, but she had what the dr thought was a throat infection (earlier that day when we had gone to the ped) and later she had bumps on her bum, and on her legs.
ETA: if you're sick, you could have a version of it too. i know i got sick...had flu-like symptoms: sore throat, tired, light-headed, weak.

Sounds like possibly Coxackie Virus, better known as Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease. Symptoms are fever, aches and malaise followed by sore throat and loss of appetite, followed by painful spots on the hands and feet. If you get a good look at the back of his throat, there will also be red ulcers on the throat and maybe even on the tongue and cheeks. Treatment is symptomatic, ie treat the fever with Tylenol, and let him eat and drink what he can/wants to. Beware that acidic foods and most juices hurt like $%^&.
It is spread through saliva, mucus and feces.
DH and I just spent an awful weekend with this disease. Last week DD seemed to have a few fire ant bites on her feet and one on her hand, but that was all. We never noticed a her seeming to have a sore throat other than she did drink a lot. All the medical literature says that adults always are only mildly affected by this. B&*%$Sh%#! The only time I think I've ever been more miserable than this weekend was when I had meningitis!

We just had this last week. It started with a fever of about 101.8 for a day and then Billy got the pinprick red spots on the soles of his feet. He got 2 bumps on his R hand, a couple bumps on his bum and what looked like a heat rash around his mouth. He ended up getting a couple blisters on the inside of his big toe but we were lucky and he got nothing in his throat. DH and I just felt a little achy and sore with mild fevers. The more I hear about this it sounds like we were very lucky.

Ugggh! That's exactly what it is!! Thanks ladies. I was worried about that. My next door neighbor said contact dermatitis but I thought that was weird that we just happened to be sick at the same time. I called the Ped and he confirmed your suspicions.
Kieran and I have been sick since Saturday. He's been running a slight temp of 99+ with a runny nose and I've been in the 100's with a horrible sore throat. I can't see into his mouth because he has a fit but as I said the soles of his feet were covered and he had one spot on his butt.
Thanks for your help!!!

I hope he feels better quickly. My cousin had this once and he got them bad in his mouth and felt yuck for a few days. I hope Kieran doesn't get it too badly.

Thanks Jackie. He seems to feel better today although the spots have spread to his hands. Mommy, on the other hand still feels sick. But then I was up most of the night trying to figure out where he may have contracted it. Oh well, It really doesn't matter anyway. As long as the boys from our playgroup don't come doen with it too. ;-(

If you are in reach of a health food store, homeopathic antimonium tart was helpful for Abigail when she had HFM. So was Benadryl at night. Hope you guys feel better!

Kieran started feeling a bit better wednesday am and now he has a terrible raspy phlegmy cough. Did your kids get this with H.F.M Disease? He definately had that...I'm just a bit concerned because I swear I smell mold in this house. (we had a leak earlier this month) I'm concerned that it's not the symptoms of the H.F.M but problems with mold.

Ok. Kieran sounds like he's getting worse as the days are going on. He's been sick since Saturday. I think we are going to head over to the Ped today.
Thanks!

I didn't know about this when dd had HFM disease- but one of the mommies on my other board suggested mixing benedryl w/ maalox and giving that to them, the maalox coats the sores and decreases the pain and the benedryl is supposed to decrease the inflamation/itchyness. As long as our going to the ped, check w/ them to see what they think

OOH...what a great idea. Thanks for telling me!
We ended up going to the Ped today. He sounds to horrible and he just feels horrible. He's hoarse, has a very mucusy (sp..sorry) cough and a fever. It's a lot different than a few days ago. His spots are almost gone on his feet and hands but they're still in his mouth. His throat is bright red and the Ped says he has a double ear infection. We ended up with Amoxicillin.
Our local news had H.F.M on their Health Watch. The Dr they interviewed says that she's been seeing it 2 months earlier than in other years because it's been so hot so early out here on the east coast.
