We have one at MIL's house. Drew is a very active sleeper and it helps keep him contained. And, more importantly for us, I think it makes him feel more secure. He sleeps on a toddler bed that has been converted from a crib. There are no rails, and it is about a 12' drop. He probably wouldn't get hurt, but it did surprise/scare him at first and he wouldn't get in the bed. Now, he really seems to enjoy being in the bed. It is a good solution for us as we just leave it there and do not travel with it. However, when he wakes up, he just pushes it off of the bed to get out. I'm hoping that means that he cannot push it off in his sleep. I need to look at it again, as we may not have it attached properly.

Just wanted to say that babies and toddlers do fall out of bed! I know of crawlers and todderls who have fallen, and my ped said it's very common. Usually it's not serious, but it sure could be scary!

For co-sleeping, a bedrail or some other barrier is essential! We had a bedrail, but also a tall mattress, so the barrier was really only about 5" tall, and not high enough to prevent a crawling baby from falling off. So I for one am interested to read this review, in thinking about something like this for the future.

The cost of the product is similar or less than the Arms-reach co-sleeper, and so might make sense financially for some co-sleeping families.

We received our snug tuck pillow a couple of weeks ago. I like that it goes the full length of the twin bed while bed rails are not that long. I ordered the 8 inch diameter pillow because I have a 4 year old active sleeper who would occassionally fall out of a toddler bed. I think the 6 inch diameter pillow would have been large enough though.

Also, I did find the owner of the company easy to work with when placing my order.:D

I know that the owner is familiar with this board, so I'm wondering if she'd be willing to do a co-op for us. Would anyone else be interested in a co-op? I could contact her to find out, but our internet is going to be disconnected in a few days so I wouldn't be able to do any of the coordination beyond the initial contact. Would anyone here be willing to coordinate the co-op if she said yes?

Just a thought...

Need a bed rail? That depends - my dd YES! She is such an active sleeper she fell out from the top of her bed lol! We have her bed on the floor, no frame. She is a poor sleeper, so any help keeping her asleep is a big deal to us. A typical kid probably would be fine with an extra pillow on the floor next to the bed.

I spoke today with the owner of Snug Tuck, who was very nice, and she agreed to offer us a 10% discount. I did try to get a higher-percentage discount, but she said that was the best she could offer considering her costs and the fact that the shipping charge is the actual amount of the materials and delivery.

I have been wanting to get this product for DS, though, so I'm thankful that she is offering us this discount (every little bit helps!). She said that she will have her computer guy set it up so that we'll be able to plug in a code when checking out in order to get that discount. I'll let you know as soon as I hear from her regarding the code, the length of time the discount will be offered, etc.

Just to let you know, my internet has already been disconnected from home (I'm at the library now) so I won't be able to respond to any posts for a few days, but I will get online to post as soon as the owner calls to let me know that we can start using a code.

Oh, one more thing--she also said that the Snug Tuck pillow has improved since the version that Rachel received. It sounds like now the straps are easier to do/undo and are also more flexible to fit a wider range of beds. I'll post more details regarding those improvements later along with the details of the co-op.

Hope this discount helps others! :)

That's awesome!! My boys will be moving out of their cribs soon, so I'll be needing two. Thanks for arranging this.

I don't always remember to check the co-op board - if anyone remembers, would you please post a reminder to check the co-op board when it starts? Thank you!

I was looking at the site and it says that you can use it on a toddler bed. We have a crib that converts into a toddler bed and then to a full-size bed. I'm not quite grasping how it can work on a toddler bed - do I have to get a custom size? DS is a restless sleeper, so this might be good for him, but I don't think that I want to get two differnt sizes... Thanks for your help!

Was the one you tested the full 72" length, or was it the shorter version with the foot gap (for, as the site says, "easier up/down access")?

We tested the full-length one. Because of the position of her bed, she usually climbs up from the foot anyway, so it worked just fine for us.

Do you think this would be good for a toddler that has already transitioned to a twin bed, but has a tendency to be a restless sleeper (and therfore occasionaly fall out of bed) and sometimes gets out of bed. I guess I'm thinking something like one of those body pillows for sort of "security" (peace of mind for the child) purposes, but this would be safer for a child becuase it is actually attached to the bed. Also, it may limit her ability or desire to continue to climb out of bed a bazillion times before finally crashing out of exhaustion?

I was thinking about bed rails to try to keep Lindsey in bed and possibly feeling more secure about staying in bed without the possibility of rolling out in the middle of the night, but I don't like the idea of "caging" her into bed. Plus, she loves to snuggle with stuffed animals, so I'm wondering if she would take to snuggling up to the pillow and feeling more secure about being in bed?

TIA

Thank you for the review, Rachel (and everyone else, too).

I think if we co-sleep with #2 I will definitely order one of these. A bedrail to suit an adult deep-mattress was such a bear to find (and we never did find a GOOD one, just ended up propping pillows up against it for higher coverage).

This looks like a great product.

My daughter would occassionally fall out of her toddler bed because she is an active sleeper. In May when she turned 4 we transitioned her to a twin bed. Before I received my snug tuck pillow which was on order, we used a body pillow to keep her from falling out of bed. For the first week we had 2 dining room chairs up against the bed to make sure the body pillow didn't fall off the top of the bed where she was sleeping. The next week we needed the chairs in the dining room and actually forgot to put them back in her bedroom, but the body pillow never moved and my daughter slept safely without incident.

I like the snug tuck pillow and as I said in my earlier post, I wish I would have ordered the 6 inch diameter instead of the 8 inch. I went for the larger size because of concern for her safety since she is such an active sleeper. But once I received the snug tuck and could see it on the bed, I realize the 6 inch would have been fine, cost less money, and not be as large as it is on the bed.

My daughter never wants to go to bed and will get out of bed off and on for a variety of reasons - the snug tuck hasn't changed this behavior. :-) She can easily climb off the bottom of the bed with the snug tuck. I do think she likes to snug up against it while she sleeps (along with her bed buddies - Leap Frog baby Tad, a baby doll and a stuffed animal).

If you're wanting to save 10% on your purchase at www.snugtuckpillow.com, you can do so simply by typing in the code BBB (bbb works too) into the space provided for a discount code. The discount code works for all her products, including the pillow case covers.

In my earlier post in this thread, I referred to how Jeanne, the owner, mentioned an improvement in the Snug Tuck Pillow. I asked Jeanne to email me an explanation of the improvement because I was afraid that I had explained it incorrectly in an earlier post in this thread. This is her explanation:
"The new lever buckle makes securing the pillow much quicker and easier than before. Now the strap simply slides throuogh the buckle, is pulled tight and secured by pressing the buckle lever down. It is not secured using velcro any longer. There is no way the elastic can bind up in this new buckle and it's more easily adjustable. It's a guaranteed fit everytime."

Jeanne may decide to offer this discount code to us for a longer period of time, but the code will definitely work for at least the next two weeks. I will email later with an update about what she decides regarding an exact expiration date for the code.

HTH! :) I just ordered mine and am looking forward to getting it.

I ordered a 6" on Wednesday with 2-3 day shipping and it arrived yesterday! I put it on DS's bed this morning, intending for him to try out his big boy bed for the first time for his nap today. His nap went GREAT, and he went down with no problems! Tonight when it was time for bed he wanted to sleep in his big bed again, and went right down with no problems - amazing, I think! We love this product, as it has kept an active sleeper in bed with no issues (so far)! Thanks to justlearning for setting up the co-op - that was really great!

I understand your concern re: overpriced baby items that "plays to parenting hysteria" BUT, I have a 1 1/2 year old daughter and she's been climbing out of her crib. We finally converted her crib into a toddler/day bed and the last two nights she has fallen out of bed. She's very active day and night (apparently). I searched online for a bed rail and even bought one from a store but had to return it because it states it is NEVER to be used on a toddler bed. I was very frustrated until I stumbled upon this Snug Tuck pillow online. Although it is not cheap I believe it will serve its purpose. Of course, if I knew how to sew this would save me a few bucks.

True the floor is not far and ours is carpeted but who would want to be awaken from sleep with that falling sensation? (I still have dreams of falling. Maybe my parents should have gotten me one of these pillows!)

p.s. These baby/toddler bargain books are wonderful!!
