there was an article in the Palm Beach Post yesterday about which items are tax free and which are not...there seem to be a lot of rules. from what I remember, generators are only tax free if under $700, plywood is not covered, only certain types of batteries, not the expensive tarps, so on and so forth. there was an article in the Palm Beach Post yesterday about which items are tax free and which are not...there seem to be a lot of rules. from what I remember, generators are only tax free if under $700, plywood is not covered, only certain types of batteries, not the expensive tarps, so on and so forth. I heard about the tax free thing on the news today. With a ticket price of 500 bucks, no tax is a good break. Hopefully this year will be easier on Florida than last. I wouldn't be real happy about forking out that kind of money either. The going thing here is safe rooms foor tornadoes...those are expensive too. Of course it wouldn't do any good for us because dh would be sticking his head out to watch the tornado go by....MEN!

I didn't realize the crappy limitations on the tax free stuff! What's the point? So much for my thoughts of early plywood at a discount. (And yes, I was one of the morons out in the sweltering heat standing in line at Home Depot for like 10 hours or something ridiculous like that.) My generator was normally like $800 bucks, but my DH's customer gave him a deal on it. Good thing or we probably wouldn't have gotten it. $800 without a tax break is a lot of $. There should be a tax break on all this stuff. I spent $200 on plywood and stuff at Home Depot last year, and none of it can be reused. They only had the inferior plywood left that can only be used once, but after 10 hours in line, I took it!

I didn't realize the crappy limitations on the tax free stuff! What's the point? So much for my thoughts of early plywood at a discount. (And yes, I was one of the morons out in the sweltering heat standing in line at Home Depot for like 10 hours or something ridiculous like that.) My generator was normally like $800 bucks, but my DH's customer gave him a deal on it. Good thing or we probably wouldn't have gotten it. $800 without a tax break is a lot of $. There should be a tax break on all this stuff. I spent $200 on plywood and stuff at Home Depot last year, and none of it can be reused. They only had the inferior plywood left that can only be used once, but after 10 hours in line, I took it!

We actually have one too. After NYC (and much of the northeast) had that major blackout 2 yrs ago, DH insisted that we had to have one. So it's been sitting in the garage for 2 yrs. At least we know it's there in the garage, just in case. He even had the electrician come and do some work so that we just need to hook it up to a special connector on the side of the house, then we just flip the power source in the electrical box.
Oh, something else you should remember to do - always keep your cars gas tanks full - try to fill it up when it gets down to 1/2. That way you won't have to worry about getting gas if it gets really bad.
