OT: Gross! Gross! Bugs in our cereal & crackers!

What are these disgusting little pests? I had to throw out THREE NEW BOXES of cereal this morning (they had each been opened for one prior meal) and two boxes of crackers because of these nasty things! What are they? I took all remaining unopened cereal and crackers out of their boxes and put them in ziploc bags - do you think this will keep them out? If you've had this problem, what other solutions have you come up with to address it?

They are probably weevils. Usually you get them when you buy a box of some kind of grain product from the grocery store that is contaminated with them and they spread to the rest of your grain products. Honestly, when it happened to me, I threw out all of our grain products that shared a pantry with visibly contaminated products. Then I started keeping most of the stuff in rubbermaid or tupperware.

My friend who lived in FL had this happen to her a few times, so she started storing her cereal in the fridge. Worked like a charm--no more bugs!

well, i don't really have space in our frig, but that sounds like a good approach! i'll have to invest in some containers that will fit our cabinets!
