DD is 6 1/2 months old and has never really had much of a gassy issue. We have started solids, but she is not that interested, so she gets very little of them. Lately, she has become more gassy and it is waking her up at night. Not sure what is causing it, but it is making her pretty miserable. It even happens on days when she has no solids at all. I did the Mylicon thing for a couple of nights and it worked really well, but it seems to be constipating her. Does it do that? I know the same medication for adults (Mylanta, etc.) can. She has had very little of it, but she has always "gone" in the mornings and since I started the Mylicon, she hasn't "gone" much at all. She is on Nutramigen, so that has never been a problem.
I'm wondering if there is something else for the gas that won't cause constipation. I found Colic tablets from Hyland's, but don't know if they really work. Any suggestions?
TIA,

Mylicon doesn't constipate, I'm pretty sure. It breaks up bubbles in the belly/gut. If she's uncomfortable, you can try pressing her belly with your palm. It'll help her feel better. Also, make sure you give her water(to drink) with her solids. Don't remember why but it's important.
Other than that, if she's tooting alot, the gas is coming out so it's a good thing. My dd was always a big tooter too. She got that from her dad. ;)

What about bicycling her legs (like the exercise)? That used to help my ds get it out when he seemed uncomfortable. ;)

Hi Kim,
I think I read about something a while back called Gripe Water (or something with a similar name) for gas. It was here on the boards. See if you find it in a search. A lot of moms had good success with it.
I hope you have a good day off tomorrow. We're going out of town til Sat nite. I'll call to catch up sunday :)

We have Colic Ease - same thing, but supposed to be better. Maybe I'll try that.
Anyone use the Colic tablets from Hyland's?
Marcy, hope you have (had) a good trip!

Gripe Water! It is our saving grace. You can find it at most Whole Foods and also at Buy Buy Baby. If you can't, buy some fresh fennel, boil it in water, strain the fennel out and give her the cooled water in a bottle - a couple of ounces.
You can also make some chammomile or peppermint tea and put it in a bottle. You might have to put a pinch of sugar in it, but it does work.
BTW, the Gripe Water is about $10 a bottle but TOTALLY worth every penny.

Yup - what Marissa said :) The leg exercises will also help.
FWIW in case someone in the future searches this thread, BFing moms can drink the teas mentioned above to help DC with gas.

Gripe water worked for us just for colic since we didn't have to deal with gas. We used to buy the Baby's Bliss brand online.

i made my own gripe water from a simple recipe posted on one of the natural mommying sites, and it amazed me every time. and i've used it myself since seeing how effective it was on DD as a newborn!
warm water, a *teeny* pinch of arm & hammer baking soda (teeny because of the high sodium content), and a touch of sugar. use a dropper or little spoon and wait for the toots or a big burp in a few minutes. so simple, but so gratifying.
