View Full Version : What's on top of your fridge?

Just being nosy...
On my fridge you would see a set of rarely used nesting bowls. The top one actually collects the little "box tops for educations." A couple of headlamps and a bucket of straws.

Okay, here goes:
Case of jarred baby food
DD's cooler for daycare
2 Rubbermaid Containers; 1 with white rice, 1 with Oatmeal
Very tall bottle of Belvedere Vodka that does not fit in the cabinet above the fridge with all the other liquor :)

A wrought iron wine rack, with six bottles of wine in it for pretty. ;-)
A glass jar with a pretty lid, full of pretzels.
08-28-2005, 01:53 PM
A wire file rack that holds cookie sheets, pizza stone, wire cooling racks, and cutting boards. A medium sized basket full of packets of gravy mix and the like (haven't used any of these in years), and bags of chips/pretzels. Oh yeah, a box of red sangria and a box of white sangria. ;-) No space goes unused in my postage stamp kitchen!

Nothing, because invariably DH takes down the cereal boxes I try in vain to keep up there and they end up scattered all over the kitchen counter, even after they are empty. :P

My cookbooks and a picnic basket.
Mommy to Matthew, who is TWO!

an electric wok I never use
a few cork trivets
my oven mitts
replacement water filter for the fridge
one of those baskets for the dishwasher that holds bottle nipples and stuff--it's brand new and never used
DS born at home 12/03
Breastfed for 20 months and 6 days
I have a cabinet above my fridge, so there isn't much space for things, but invariably, they are Things That Nate Should Not Have or Were Taken Away. Such as:
- a mug w/ pens and pencils and the odd screwdriver inside
- a rounded chopping knife w/o its bowl
- a wooden train whistle
- strapping/packing tape
- the meat pounder
- regular tape
- paperwork for MDO
And various other things that I cannot recall off the top of my head.

A pretty tray with candles and a container of Amish Friendship bread starter so I see it and remember to do what I'm suppose to do to it each day (if I left it in the pantry I'd never remember to stir or add stuff and if I left it on the counter DH would toss it).

Since I hate living in clutter, I would *prefer* nothing. Sadly, the list is long...
Two HUGE containers of protein shake mix (won't fit in our pantry)
One box of Joe's Os
Two reuseable lunch bags
A dried flower arrangement from my birthday in June (wasn't dried originally, but actually looks kinda pretty that way)
A dog water dish full of collars, leashes, heartworm treats and flexi-leads
A whole lotta dust (haven't seen this one, but I have little doubt in my mind that the top of the fridge is quite covered...)
Note to self: clean off top of fridge SOON before the clutter takes over. Wait - it already HAS!
Lots of junk-- it's become a catch-all for things to keep out of Payton's reach.
2 flashlights (the big Maglights you see in the commercials that get run over by the semis)
Rubbermaid containers with cookies
Tons of can cozies
A wicker basket
A cookie tin
The container Payton's magnets came in
And lots and lots of dust and other junk :)
I'm not very happy about it-- it's on my list of things to take care of before Payton's party next weekend!

A big basket full of plastic containers and lids.

i'm glad to see dust made the list as it is a major part of what is on top of my fridge!! other than that... two hand-painted trays we used to always use when we ate in the living room (but now that we are grown-ups we eat at the table to show dd a good model!), the 1970's fondue pot i've used once that i acquired from my parents because it goes well with my fiesta, kitchen towels, and a bunch of other stuff i can't think of...

The knife block and lots of dust!

Lots of wine!

It used to be a white wooden tray full of different snacks(chips, pretzels, etc) but it just got out of hand. We'd forget about half the stuff and ended up throwing away 3/4 of a bag of stale pretzels, etc. So, in an effort to organize a bit, I've put the snacks where they belong in the pantry. Now there's just the tray with a cute potted flower that Ryan gave me for Mother's Day.(from pre-school) MUCH prettier!! Oh, I almost forgot, and a lot of dust. :P
08-28-2005, 04:44 PM
My roommate's cats' food dish (keeps it out of reach of my fat cat, who would gorge herself on it), and a triple-sized box of raisin bran.
08-28-2005, 06:41 PM
Block with all the sharp knives, a box of rice krispies, and a box of cheerios.
08-28-2005, 07:44 PM
Cereal boxes, bags of snacks, a few random things we are keeping up high away from the baby and sometimes dh hides his candy up there!
08-28-2005, 08:30 PM
Dust and a breakfast in bed tray.
We have a recessed fridge (so it's flush with counters) and a cabinet on top, so not very much room to dump stuff. Good thing too. Now, it's just my daughter's lunch box--and dust.
08-28-2005, 10:26 PM
Knife block that got moved up there once DS able to get on counter tops.
round basket with onions - empty now since they all rotted!
rectangular basket with bread, bagels
monitor waiting to go upstairs with me - it's right next to the doorway leading upstairs!
dust - I think - I can't see up that high! Maybe DH dusted when he found the rotting onions!
08-28-2005, 10:40 PM
Cooking oils, vinegars, soy sauce, maple syrup, etc.
Rice cakes and vitamins.
It's a pantry - not enough kitchen cabinet room. :)
08-28-2005, 11:10 PM
A wine rack with our el cheapo selection (we like to go to the wine warehouse and buy a bunch of bottles that are less than $10 and keep them upstairs to try out to see if we can find one we love)
Three baskets, one with Jack's dipes, one with Mia's and one with cloth wipes and diaper creme. I tried in vain to find another place for these, but if I leave them down low Mia ends up putting them on her stuffed animals.

Two "mug trees" with decorative mugs...and a stack of Gymboree receipts!
08-29-2005, 12:12 AM
Dust, a notebook of recipes, some torn out, some neatly cut, from magazines, the internet, etc. (not the system Caroline should emmulate), a box of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers that I've never opened but bought based on posts on the board! More dust.
08-29-2005, 12:19 AM
Well technically, cabinets that are full of ziplocs, tinfoil, parchment, etc. When we redid the kitchen, we had the fridge recessed so it's flush with the counter on one side, and on the other, a giant 5' tall cabinet that opens and swings out.
In the small space between the cabinets and fridge, paper plates and a breakfast in bed tray (the legs fold under it).
In the condo, I had all my cookbooks and a small wine rack above it.
08-29-2005, 12:50 AM
Nothing! I have a built-in! :P
08-29-2005, 09:17 AM
We just did a kitchen remodel and we have a 24" deep cabinet that goes to the ceiling on top of the fridge. That way there there is no way for clutter to collect on top of the fridge. I love it!
08-29-2005, 10:47 AM
A small basket where we keep paper napkins and another basket where we keep bread.
08-29-2005, 11:13 AM
I am winging it here because we just got a new pantry cabinet that a lot of stuff went into.
Wine and liquor all bottles covered in dust.
Box of Malley Choclates (yum)
Banana Hook no bananas
Sterilizer for baby bottles that hasn't been used since DD was 8 mos old
Misc. canned goods
Travel Mugs that DH intends to take to work someday
Travel crock (for soup)
Still looks cluttered though. ;)
Maddy born 06/09/04
Little Peanut due 03/02/06
Malley's Sweet Slips... Mmmmmmm....
One more reason I miss home!
08-29-2005, 11:27 AM
Glass Blender jar from the Cuisinart
2 boxes of Cheerios
stack of receipts
a bowl I need to return to someone
a platter that will not fit in the cupboard
the instruction manual for the blender/food processor
a pile of recipes
Thankfully, today I will be clearing it all off! Our nice landlords, upon noticing that our kitchen does not have the pantry closet that the other apartments have, when out and bought us a free standing pantry closet!
I am glad to read that not everyone has the magazine cover perfect kitchen!
08-29-2005, 11:31 AM
3 cereal boxes
cooler type lunch box
George Forman grill
wire thingies for aluminum cans in the fridge
and other things I can't think of b/c I'm at work trying to picture my very messy top of fridge :)
08-29-2005, 12:34 PM
Way too funny!
Basket of napkins
The bagel guillotine that we never use
6 containers of bubbles
bug spray (all natural of course)
a bag of Jelly Beans
cake decorating colors (the colored stuff I added to the frosting for Jack's birthday cake. Um, that was almost 6 months ago...)
An antique fish jar filled with our spare change. It probably has $500. in it-I have actually been thinking about moving this-I'm afraid it is going to cave into the freezer.......
