I don't know if this is the right forum for this question, but I wasn't sure where else to put it and I thought it would get the most traffic here.

Two years ago my ILs brought back some toys from India for my dd. Among them were these painted wooden pieces. Really, that is the only way to describe it. It came in a small basket, and some of the pieces fit into the other pieces to form, well, bigger pieces of wood?? Some pieces look sort of like they would work like a spice grinder. Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about??

I put them away because I was concerned about the paint and my dd putting the pieces in her mouth. Well a few weeks ago she found them and she thinks they are so cool! She is past the mouthing stage, but my ds is not. I wouldn't let my ds play with them yet and some pieces are definitely too small to have out with my ds around, but others seem fine.

Does anyone know what these pieces are (my MIL said they were very popular)? And, whether I should be concerned about the paint?

Sorry, it doesn't ring any bells. Could you post a pic?

Hmm, that would involve me learning how to use our digital camera right?? LOL! I am not very technologically savvy. Anyway, it is not the most important thing, I was really just curious.

BTW, Nita your son is adorable! Neel is one of my dh's favorite names, and it is Irish (Neal) for me, and Indian for my DH. If we have another boy there is a good chance we will have a Neal/Neel!

Of course now you have me curious. ;) I'd love to see a picture of this thing. Besides, once you figure out your camera, then we can see a really cute picture of your DC's. :)

LOL!! That is exactly why we picked Neel - DH is Irish. Kiran/Keiran was next on our list. :) Looks like the list of boys names that work as Indian and Irish is very short indeed.

How funny! Yes, we are somewhat limited if we want to stay ethnic. I think (correct me if I am wrong) that there are Indian names close to, but with different spellings and perhaps slightly different pronunciations to Dylan, Ethan and Devan?? It's been a while so maybe I am not remembering correctly.

Anna is obviously not an Indian name, but she is named for her grandmothers. Her full name is Anna Lata -- for Anne and Swarnalata. Kieran's full name is Kieran Ravi.
