Searching for Dig Camera for landscape pics, Photographers?

My mom would like to get my dad a digital camera for Christmas. Mostly pictures would be of Frank Lloyd Wright houses that he and my mom travel all over the U.S. to see and then of course his grandchild(ren).

Do you have a recommendation? I think she'd rather get him a smaller one and not spend over $400. Dad has a discrening eye when it comes to cameras, and their picture quality so any help is appreciated!
