My DH (cough, cough) used to do this regularly just because....

Anyways, take a warm bath to get the skin nice and soft/smooth and unwrinkled. Apply thin layer of sensative shaving cream and use a brand new razor so it's sharpest. Gently pull taught a section of skin and shave up with light pressure, going gently over any rippled skin and re-warming area with a warm wash cloth if it starts to get tight and wrinkled again. It's probably best if he relaxes and does this alone. He can also take mustache clippers to clear up a thick nest of stuff that might clog up a razor.

How's that? And I didn't even say a single dirty word! :7

Thank you Larissa, for being so candid and helpful!! I thought a warm bath might help! I am desperately afraid he is going to ask me to do it...

Warning: mine goes a little OT and a fair amount TMI.

DH went through two reversal surgeries, and for those the surgical center staff did the area preparation. But the useful tip I can offer is get him some Bikini Zone for recovery. He's going to have wicked itchies later on! Also, a tip from DH (not from his experience, but from some friends): apparently many guys are tempted to prove they are still manly by being up and around right after a vasectomy. This tends to cause swelling. Scary-huge swelling. If you don't want to see your DH limping around with grapefruits where his anatomy should be, keep him in bed and on ice! (My particular favorite story was the one about the idiot who decided he had an excuse to go play golf without having to take off extra time from work. Well, after all that activity he was stuck in bed in a very awkward position and a lot of pain for the rest of the week. Bet he had fun trying to explain that none when he called in sick to the office!)

Sorry, mine was little more graphic, but I avoided explicit terms and maybe you got a laugh, too.

when Dh had his testicle removed they did this for him....but it is very uncomortable when it grows back...so make sure he gets some after shave cream! and they also shaved really high up onto his belly...just in case you need to know how far to go.........

Benet already gave you a lot of good advice, but I'd just die if DH asked me to do this...not b/c I don't want to look at it, but b/c I'm afraid I'd nick him. Kinda how I wouldn't let DH get near me w/ a razor (legs or other parts).

When I had my lap-ovarian surgery, I shaved myself so I wouldn't get a nasty razor burn. I don't know how the hospitals do it, but it always seems to leave me w/ nasty bumps. I don't know why, but my DH never seemed to have razor burn afterwards, but perhaps it's b/c he did it every 2-3 weeks so the skin toughened up a bit. I don't know. But I'm wishing him good luck and a speedy recovery!

Just wait until you can't see what you're doing...

He may not have to worry about it. Much evidence is out there to show that preoperative shaving increases the risk of infection. Many savvy surgeons are no longer shaving operative regions.

Didn't know that part of the anatomy could regenerate....:-). This thread is becoming pretty funny!

Unfortunately, the dr ordered him to shave before he comes to the appointment. :(

Thanks for all the responses! I'm going to print out this thread and give it to DH to read.

Keeping fingers crossed..... :o
