If anyone has flown recently and taken along OTC Children's liquid medicine like Benadryl or Pediacare,

1) It's okay that the bottle has been opened already, right? I'm reading the TSA website and it doesn't say anything about that.

2) The TSA website says to make sure they "are properly labeled with a professionally printed label identifying the medication and manufacturer's name or pharmaceutical label". So I don't need to take them in the original carton box since the bottles are labeled, right?

Also, I'm also reading the info on bring along saline solution.

3) Am I understanding it correctly that it's categorized under OTC medication and the amount is not limited to the under 3 oz rule?

The small bottle of saline solution that I normally carry comes in a 4 oz bottle. I don't need the entire bottle for the flight so I'm just wondering if I should leave it in the clearly labeled original 4 oz. manufacturer's bottle, or pour a small amount into a smaller less than 3 oz. travel size bottle and just take that with me. Except in that case it won't have the original label.

4) In general, did you bring trial size bottles of lotion, toothpaste, etc. that has the original manufacturer's label, or did you put some of your items into travel size bottles because it just doesn't come in sizes that are less than 3 oz.

DH and I are flying overseas with DD next week. I'm probably being anal and over-thinking it but I'd rather ask stupid questions and getting "technical" now than end up getting stuck at security check.

Thanks in advance.

Hey!! I just flew with sick DD 2 weeks ago. I took on a bottle of infant tylenol and some Little Noses without any problems. In fact, I even took on a bottle of water to mix the formula and it was cleared by security. It was domestic, not international but I would think it would be the same since everyone goes through the same security line. They were not nearly as strict as I was expecting. In fact they were very understanding and helpful. Good Luck and have fun on your trip!!

We flew a couple of weeks ago to Seattle from Raleigh. In my carry on, I brought an already opened bottle of OTC children's Benadryl and diaper rash cream. They confiscated my diaper rash cream on the way home, but allowed the Benadryl "as long as it was labeled for children". It was a large bottle.

They both made it through security on the trip there because I wasn't searched, but on the way home I was pulled aside.

All other toiletries I put in waterproof bags in my checked luggage. Maybe you should divide your saline solution and other items up, putting half in carry on and half in checked luggage. Then, if they confiscate anything, you'll still have a back up (although not an immediate one).

Have a great trip! :)

Thanks for your tips and thanks for sharing your experience! I'm hoping it won't be too bad. Now I just have to search the rest of the board for packing tips!
