Home Birth - where do I start?

I am fairly certain some mommies here have given birth at home. We are TTC and would like to have a home birth this time. How do I find a care provider who is on board with this? My (now former) Dr. acted like I was some kind of idiot when I asked him for support on this. But then again, this man thinks I shouldn't still be breastfeeding, didn't think I should BF exclusively, and thinks it's normal for DS to have diarrhea for 15 days. Any way, I would like an attended home birth, and if there are complications the hospital is only 5 minutes away. Can someone please share their experiences with me?

What state do you live in? Every state has different laws, regulations, allowed providers, etc.

I would recommend that you start digging around on www.mothering.com as well.
