Does anyone have opinions on a diaper pail? I am looking at the Diaper Genie and Diaper Champ. Any input on which is better, especially on the odor end of things?
You'll find people in both camps!
Count me as a Diaper Champ fan! We've been using it for 9 mths and it has contained the smell 100%, with the exception of when we change the bag, which OF COURSE, is going to be a stinky undertaking! We love it! It's easy to use, one handed operation, and you don't need special refills. You just use any garbage or even shopping bag in it.

Diaper Champ!
Contains smells and you don't have to pay $4 for refills. Plus it is easier for other people to figure out. Before I went to cloth diapers, I had genie and NO ONE could figure out how to use it. Plus I could still smell the dirty diapers in dd room.

I've been researching this too. I've used a Diaper Genie for the last 20 months and generally been happy. No problems with odors and didn't find it particularly complicated to use. However, it's worn out so we're going to have to buy another one. The fact that it wore out so quickly irritates me, but I'm thinking I still might buy a second Diaper Genie rather than the champ just because I'm not particularly fond of the "chute" on the diaper champ. I know that often, my diapers don't always contain the mess and I would hate for that to frequently end up in the chute. It's really a toss up for me!

I started out with the Diaper Genie, but switched to the Diaper Champ because the genie was too much of a pain. BUT, I must add that my DG was a slightly used one without directions so I was never quite sure I was doing it right. I was happy with the Diaper Champ until DD began eating lots of solids. It didn't contain the smell and since that is the sole purpose of a diaper pail, I switched back to the DG. After asking questions on this board about how to properly use it, I love it. I rarely ever notice an odor. So I say go with the Diaper Genie, but make sure you're using it right!

I have a Diaper Genie and really like it. DS is 10 months now and has some seriously stinky poopy diapers and the Genie contains them well. If you use the Genie right, it works really well.

I vote Diaper Champ thus far - I've used my for two months now with no problems. It's easy to use and the odor is contained. I also like the idea you can use any old bag instead of special refills.
To the poster who was concerned about having to clean the chute, I've heard the suggestion to keep a bunch of old supermarket plastic bags on hand, and pop the dipe in one of them before putting them down the chute. DD has not hit the super messy diaper stage yet so I haven't implemented this myself, but I plan to do so if the need arises. God only knows I have way more of those bags than I can ever need in a lifetime!
Diaper Champ. I was a bit worried when DD started solids last month because they said how poops get a lot more stinky but so far my DC is holding up to its job really well! :)
Good luck on your diaper container quest!

Love the Diaper Champ. With two in diapers, it wouldn't make sense to have a Diaper Genie and pay for refills. I've had no problem with smell, but we also stuck a glade air freshener thingy in there.

FYI- If it's just certain parts on your DG that are worn out, call Playtex. They will send you new ones for free. Helen (brubeck) mentioned that once, and they were great when I called them.
