View Full Version : Laying on a lump...night time diapering woes

Well, I finally bit the bullet and bought 2 Firefly Sleeptight diapers, 2 soakers (1 LANA, 1 Aristocrat), and a LLL Nighty Newt soaker to use in a Happy Heiny. Up until now we've been using disposables without any problem. But I have been getting grossed out by gel beads and stinky-chemical smelling urine laiden diapers in the morning-BLECH!-and something had to be done!
So far we've tried the NN Soaker in a Happy Heiny, and there were no leaks. Tonight he's in a FF Sleeptight with the LANA Soaker. But what comes to mind with both of these combos (the NN Soaker more-so than the FF), is that he's laying on a "log" of hemp. How uncomfortable that must be! What are your thoughts on this? Do your babies mind the lump they lay on? I wish it were more spread out so there wasn't a hump behind their back!

Dallin usually has quite an ant butt and it doesn't seem to bother him at all! LOL! HTH
Im working on a night time diaper thats trim yet works..I would love for you to be one of my testers Amy..He sounds like he can soak diapers up pretty well like Ari..So definately lmk...
Other than that i hear you about the NN!! i loved how much they absorb but hated that HUGE uncomfy bulk...

hmmm... we use pockets at night with hemp inserts (we used to use one infant prefold and one hemperoo, now i use my own inserts and maybe add a hemperoo if he had a lot to drink before bed) and we don't have a huge bubble butt. bigger than with a sposie, i suppose. but i wouldn't call it a lump.

Amy,
I am right there with you. In fact, I was so close to switching back to sposies at night but Ben leaks out of them, too. I have a couple of the thicker organic cotton firefly diapers w/ doublers and a bunch of nighty newts. Ben can soak both these combos completely at night. He doesn't seem uncomfortable in them, but if I try to add an extra doubler to either, that makes things so bulky that he gets uncomfortable then.
I think it is worse now in the Summer since they drink so much more. :(
I've been using wraps at night but was thinking of trying a LANA soaker. How do you like it?

Shea and Neve both sleep with their bums up in the air - doesn't seem to bother them at all :) Sure beats wet pj's and sheets from disposies!

lol! We put a Stacinator on Jackson last week, and I swear I thought all the blood would rush to his head! His butt was SO far up in the air! He's a side-sleeper. I'm waiting for LLL to re-open so I can try some Nighty Newts that were recommended. Last night we used a Fuzzi Bunz with a soaker & a prefold and he woke up dry!

Linda- I'd LOVE to try out a night time diaper! I'll email you...
Carolee- I LOVE how super soft the LANA soaker is, just like a bunny :) I think it works great. However, Josh is such a big boy, it's too snug on him over a FF Sleeptight. It's like a major circus act trying to get it on the poor child--like when we gals put on too-tight jeans! So, I'm going to return it. The Large Aristocrat I bought is the same fit--too small. I know they make an X-large, but I really wasn't impressed with the feel of the wool. I am going to try to score a Kiwie Pie Cashmere wool cover when she restocks on the 24th.
Liza- Yeah, I'd guess an infant prefold with a JB would be nice and trim...but Josh needs 12 layers of hemp to make it through the night! :o Thats a 3 layer trifolded hemp soaker (9 layers when folded), plus another 3 layer doubler on top of that! Weesh! And in the morning, every single layer is soaked through!
Pam- Isn't it cute when they sleep with their little punkin-butts up in the air?! LOL! Josh usually sleeps on his back though, which is why I am concerned about the lump on his lower back. Really, it's that ridge where the soakers end that seems really uncomfortable--like wearing a bulky maxi-pad! Uggh!

It doesn't seem to bother Eliza that much. I've been trying different things to keep up absorbancy but also keep her comfy. Have you thought about just sticking with hhs for nightime? Since you mentioned it's not as bulky but still stops leaks.

I use Nighty Newts in Fuzzi Bunz at night - it works GREAT! It's the only thing that works for us! It's much less bulk than what I was doing before: 3 Joey Bunz stuffed in a Fuzzi Bunz. It's softer too. If you're concerned about it, you can spread out the ends of the NN prefold when it's stuffed in, then it'll not be stacked on top of itself at his back, and maybe he'll lay a bit flatter.
Since DD sleeps on her side, I haven't worried about the night-time butt, but I used to worry about it when she was on her back.
