View Full Version : Diaper Cremes and CD's?

So without thinking, I used some Burt's Bees Diaper Rash Ointment on Gabe yesterday and put the Fuzzibunz over it. After laundering today, there's still a bit left on there.
1. Should I not use rash creme with CD's? Or are certain brands okay?
2. How do I get it out?
Thanks again my dear ladies!

yes, typically there are diaper rash ointments to stay away from when CD'ing. based on my findings here, burt's bees is one of the ok ones. i've used burts bees on both fuzzibunz and CPF without a problem. as to how to get it out, i've heard rave reviews about "zout" but i don't know if it works on ointment stains.
sorry :-(

Certain brands are okay. Burt's is known as one of those...so I'm surprised it's still there. I agree with Tara, try some Zout.
Balmex is okay. I've also done okay with Aveeno.
I think I was told to stay away from Butt Paste.
Fish oil is a common ingredient in diaper rash ointments that cause problems with CDs. However, not all ointments list "fish oil" as an ingredient, or it might be called something else.
Also, you can always use a fleece or paper liner when using ointment. This way, the ointment won't come into contact with the diaper.
HTH!

Yea, Burt's is good for CDs. I haven't had it leave a residue. Dawn dishwashing detergent is known to be the best at getting any king build-up off of fleece.

Mariana,
Funny you should metion this because it happened to me for the first time yesterday. Put Burt's Bees on DS with a Dry Bees dipe and there was residue left after I washed it. It has never happened before. Hmmmm.....makes you wonder if Burt's changed their "recipe".

I've always had a problem with Burt's leaving a residue - I think it is in how much you use - my kids tend to need a thick layer. However, it hasn't seemed to hurt our FBs and it does come out with a few washes, I've not had to resort to Zout. I use it with our fitteds from time to time b/c I was left with a stockpile of it when I switched to cding.
Mariana - try California Baby's diaper creme - it is thinner and I've never had it leave a residue. You can get it a Whole Foods among other places!

Burt's Bees should be fine with your CDs. We use it all the time and haven't had a problem- as PPs mentioned, perhaps the difference lies in how much you use, or perhaps they changed the recipe? In any case you should be able to wash out any residue eventually.
The diaper cremes that are "no-no"s for CDs are not recommended because they might stain the fluff. From what I understand, the culprit ingredient is indeed fish oils. Desitin, Butt Paste, and A&D all have fish oil in them, so are not recommended for CDs. I use Butt Paste all the time, though, because it works so well for littleman and it's a bit less expensive than our other two options. I just stick with PFs when I use it, because I'm not concerned if those get stained.
"Good" diaper rash cremes for CDs include Burt's Bees, Triple Paste (those work great for littleman), and Aquaphor. There are others, of course- you just have to read the ingredients.

We use Aquaphor at night as a preventative with no problems. I also have some Weleda that I use every once in a while (available at Whole Foods).
Dawn should get the Burts out of your FB fleece. But I would do this in the sink and rinse thoroughly before washing with your dipes. Dawn sudses like crazy with our water here!

Unless Gabe has a rash, I think it is best not to apply any kind of ointment... more breathable for the skin.
