I got some wipes off of ebay a few days ago and they arrived in the mail today. They are wonderful-so soft and cuddly-and they were super cheap ($4.25 for six). I got a variety pack of different fabric combinations and a pack of velour/fleece. She has flannel, fleece, sherpa, velour, burley knit terry, suede cloth, and stretch terry and she will do custom orders. Her ebay ID is trudy4u and her name is Gretchen. I highly recommend them.

Jessica,
Thanks so much for letting us know about these wipes. I ordered a bunch of flannel/velour and flannel/sherpa from Gretchen and love them. I also had her make me some burp cloths of sherpa/velour and some more wipes. They are really well made and oh so soft. Billy loves them and has confiscated a few as blankies for his little panda bear :)

Oh, I'm so glad you like them. I've been thrilled with mine. I'm glad I got a variety pack because is was helpful to figure out what materials I like never having used cloth wipes before. Having her make burp cloths is such a great idea. We are constantly using burp cloths because my dd has severe acid reflux. I was thinking of having her make me some sherpa/velour wipes so maybe I'll have her make a burp cloth or two while I'm at it.

Yes! Thanks for the recommendation. I bought a bunch of sherpa/velour wipes from her for our new baby and they are great. The price is right, too. I think they were .95 each.

Not Lori, but I can answer your question. I emailed her yesterday and she sent me a price list for all her wipes and burp cloths. She is asking $3 for a 10x15 burp cloth. I can post all the specifics or email it to you if you want. Let me know.

For those of you who purchased a variety pack of wipes, which types were your favorites (and why)?

Well, all of them have flannel on one side. My very favorite is the flannel/sherpa. It is great for grabbing the poop. I also like the velour one a lot. It's nice and soft and great for using after the sherpa one to get whatever is left. The flannel works pretty well, but it does get pilly and faded pretty quickly. The other one I like a lot is the french terry. I find it to be highly absorbant and soft and scrubby. I have some velour/sherpa on order and I think I will really like that combo. I may also get some with french terry and something else (not sure what). I didn't like the burley knit terry because I thought it was too rough and scratchy. The suede cloth is really soft but not very absorbant. Same goes for the fleece. HTH!

No problem. Glad to help. I like my cloth wipes so much I would never go back to disposables even if we switched back to disposable diapers (not that I would do that either). They just work so much better.

OK, here ya go!! I got 6 wipes to start off with (will def be ordering more soon!) that are velour/sherpa. I told her to do both boy & girl colors, I wanted some pinks & purples since I have boys and those colors don't come around :) The sherpa is a natural color and there are two lime green sherpas. The dark velour in the top row is a dk purple (very very pretty & manly all at the same time, will probably order 6 more of this color just because I love it). I also got 2 burpies in velour/flannel (DS2 is sleeping with the other one), those are nice, but I might try a sherpa combo next time. I washed them all when they came and they look great!

I also have an upclose of the sherpa if you want to see that. It's just reg sherpa, nice and bumpy for grabbing "stuff"!
I'm so in love with these that I might order more next week!

I know this is the baby butts! category, but which type of wipe(s) would you prefer to use on the baby's face?
mommyoftwo
02-14-2006, 02:58 AM
Well, I think I've used them all, but velour is so soft and gentle. I think I would go with all velour or velour/sherpa if you wanted to be able to scrub a little for crusty food or whatever. The french terry works great too. It's nice and soft with just a little scrubbiness if that's a word, lol.

Hi all,
I purchased wipes maybe a month ago from Gretchen. She was great to work with! I got all velour-sided wipes because the flannel-sided wipes I originally purchased (from elsewhere) just haven't held up as well -- just not still soft! So, I ordered v/v & v/sherpa (10 each) and they're great. Some aren't sewn perfectly square, but it's really minor. I did just notice that I have a few dark teal velour with white on the opposite side & that the teal ran. It makes the white look tie-dye, & I don't really care, but I thought I'd let you guys know (I've emailed Gretchen to let her know too).
They are GREAT wipes, & now I'm going to ask her to make ME a burp cloth too:-) Thanks for the suggestion!

I GOT SUCKED IN!!!!
Oh, but the wipes are addicting, they are sooo soft and lovely, I found DH petting one that was laying around when he was on the computer :) Once he sees the velour dipes that's coming for DS2 he'll be petting the poor kid from morning till night!

I got my burp clothes in the mail last week and I love them. We've somehow misplaced one (I think it got left at the babysitters) and I'm in mourning. :) Anyway, I highly recommend them. I also wanted to add that I have recently discovered that fleece wipes can be really handy when you have a super messy diaper. Amelia has had some really doosies lately that have required spraying off her wipes as well as her diaper. The mess comes off super easily when you use the fleece side to wipe off the initial "load." Just though I would mention it. I still like the velour/sherpa combination best for normal situations but the fleece has definitely come in handy recently.

I ordered two dozen of the velour/sherpa wipes from Gretchen and have been really happy with them - they arrived within a few days of placing the order, and are well-made. Just wanted to share a pic of some of the velour colors:
http://www.windsorpeak.com/dc/user_files/32594.jpg
(I ordered 2 each of navy blue, turquoise blue, sky blue, lilac, baby blue, purple, royal blue, red, dark teal, rose, periwinkle and pink)
Thanks to the OP who recommended these!
Edited to correct dumb mistake.

Cool. They look very nice. :) So, out of curiosity, why did you decide on velour/fleece instead of velour/sherpa or some other combo?

I just wanted to thank Jessica and everyone else who recommended these wipes.
I received my order from Gretchen this week. They look and feel great. I ordered 3 dozen sherpa/velour and 1 dozen velour/terry wipes. I can't wait to try them out. Gretchen is great to work with.

That is interesting. I have one fleece wipe made by MOE and I have to admit, the first time I used it for poop, I nearly jumped up and down with excitement because it was SO EASY. The only problem is that with fleece wipes (and fleece in general) you can get build up and then when I squirt it with water, the water beads up and takes time to be absorbed. But that's pretty minor if you're talking a really bad poopy dipe!
Today, Kaya had 2 huge, gross, sticky ones (sorry for TMI), and I just took off the diaper (a pocket, thankfully) and I chucked her in the bathtub and sprayed her off. It was just that much easier! It still took some time to get her clean, but I didn't have to go through a million wipes, either.
