Hi Everyone!
What's the best soft seat that fits on top of the regular toilet seat? My son is doing great with peeing (standing up) into the potty, but refuses to sit on the potty to poop!! I've even tried the technique of letting him go naked from the waist down and he will go into the bathroom and pee on his own without prompting (YEAH!) but asks me to "put on my diaper so I can poop." He obviously knows when he's going to go...I think the seat we have (it's the type from a potty chair that fits on top of the adult toilet seat) is too small for him. I think it's from the Safety 1st Potty/Step stool and the little handles on the side force him to keep his legs too close together and his bottom seems too big to fit properly on the opening. Sorry if all of this is TMI but I think he's more than ready and I'm frustrated cause I've tried everything to get him to poop on the potty. Changing the seat is the last thing I can think of!! Any seat recommendations/experiences would be much appreciated!!
Thanks-
Ben & Will's Momma

I've tried the Cushie Tushie (which the Fields loved) and the Baby Bjorn insert, and the BB insert is a thousand times better. DS could easily pee over the top of the CT, and it slid all over on our normal-shaped potty. The Bjorn doesn't have either of those problems.

I think Lori's suggestion is a good one, although we don't have that particular one. She does well with the stepstool soft insert. But she does it in the regular potty with the insert in its place so that she can plant her feet on the floor.
I will say that 2 months ago, she was at the same stage as your son and always waited until she had her diaper (for nap or bedtime) before she pooped. It was kind of frustrating for us because it seemed like she was doing it to delay bedtime (she would do it right after nursing and just as we put her in the crib). But then one day (July 1), she ran into the bathroom and said she needed to pee. She sat down and pooped! Since then, we've only had 3 poopy diapers and they were all sleeping diapers. She's been in underwear since then. So it may be that your little guy just isn't ready to poop in the potty yet. I imagine it must be kind of a weird feeling for them.

DS's bum was too big for the potty insert thingy from the get-go, so we just seated him on the regular toilet seat with his legs spread out (a 45-degree angle). For a while, he needed help balancing, but by now he's a pro.
We used the "Look at you sitting like a grown-up on the toilet seat!" tactic, too, to keep him from being nervous about falling in...so far, so good...

Heh, heh, toddlers really do come in all sizes don't they? Kaya has two best friends: 1) a girl who was born premature at 35 weeks and she is MAYBE 21 pounds at 2.5 years old and so far, every potty, her butt has just gone through, even the tiniest ones (although her mom hasn't tried the BB potty) and 2) a boy who was born just under 9 pounds and is now 36 pounds at almost 2.5 years old. He towers over Kaya and the rest of the kids. He's probably built a lot more like Nathan.

That's what we're doing here too. I bought a seat insert but if he sits back far enough to point his penis down, then his butt is too far back to poop in the potty. I have to help him get situated on the big potty right now but we've only been doing this a week so I'm sure that'll change.

I noticed with my boy, the inserts that came apart (the ones that came with the graco, i guess, and something else..)...like where the seat was inside a ring and it came apart for washing...they would get totally full of pee! I never tried the cushie tushie, but I know a few kids who liked them, and it may be better on a round bowl than an elongated bowl. I just splurged on a BB toilet ring and it seems the nicest so far (should have just spent the $30 to begin with, rather than several 10-15$ items, in retrospect! though this is for baby #3, and i'd have gotten rid of the other things by now, anyway, lol)
