Do you think I (or MIL) could sew a little ribbon trim on a cotton Zolo?

I really wanted a silk Zolo, but I just don't think I can spend the money, so I was thinking of getting the black cotton one and then having MIL trim it with some ribbon at the edge--not that it does not look absolutely beautiful on its own, but I thought that might be pretty. Having not seen the Zolo in real life (or any sling for that matter), would this work? Would the sling still pass through the rings and adjust in the proper manner? I don't want to get this wonderful sling and ruin it, so any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

For sure you could sew some trim on the edge of the tail with no change in performance. I don't know about edging the whole thing, though. I think that could affect how it threads. Maybe you could applique something on the pocket, too?
