View Full Version : Opened can of formula, how long is good?

We've had a can of formula opened since December, and the date on the bottom says it's good until April of 2005. The label states to not use if open for more than a month...should I throw it out, or is it ok to use?
Thanks so much!

Definitely throw it out! The label date on the bottom is for an unopened can. Once its been opened and exposed to air and moisture, the 30 day shelf life comes into play.

Can't encourage you to toss it enough...my son threw up after drinking some 2 month old opened dry formula that grandma assumed was still good YES it could just be a coincidence but it seemed pretty obvious to me...he was fine but I went through her kitchen carefully the next time I left my son with her for the afternoon......NEVER buy the big cans of formula if you are not sure how fast you will use it. I made this mistake early on when he was still nursing and just taking 2 ounces of formula at a time

I will echo the others - throw it out!
