Does anyone know where I might find a non-toxic splat mat?

TIA,
Jude

Why don't you make a canvas one? You could make one of those painted floorcloths that they show on home decorating shows. I bet either www.hgtv.com or www.diynet.com will have instruction. The upside is that it can match your decor, no cartoon characters if they are not your thing.

I second making one. I bet that fleece would work, too, and wouldn't require a sewing machine.

Making one is probably going to be your least expensive option, but there are pvc-free ones here: http://www.mimithesardine.com/SPLASHMATS/Splashmat.html .
We have two of these (we use one as a splat mat and one as a tablecloth for art projects at DD's little table) and have been pleased with them.

Thanks to our dog and a (relatively) neat-eating DD, we don't need a splat mat. I remember another mom posting that she just used an old bed sheet folded into quarters (or whatever size worked). That would be super easy to wash (and PVC free!).

We've always used a plastic one....are they toxic?!

That would be me. I cut up an old bed sheet into 6 pieces and we just it throw into the laundry pile when the day is done. :)

Hmm. If you want canvas and don't sew, you might try looking at your local hardware store for a canvas tarp. (I keep one in the trunk of my car that I got at Home Depot.) Some fabric paint and creativity could turn a tarp into a great splat mat.

Good luck,
Karen
