What do you feed DC to make up for the lack of fat? I'm working on transitioning DD to enriched Rice Dream, but I worry about the fat content since it's low. However, my ped didn't seem worried about it though. I'm also working on trying to get her off of bottles, but so far not much luck there.

DS can't have any dairy and drinks soymilk. I give him avacados (he'd eat them all day long if we'd let him!), and add olive oil to his pasta and some veggies. I think some mamas on here may give flaxseed oil to their children, but I'm not sure how much or if they add it to food or beverages. Hopefully someone else will have some other ideas!

My girls eat avocados a lot. I also stir about a teaspoon of flaxseed oil into their oatmeal or smoothie every day. I am going to offer them salmon soon - hopefully they'll like it. My girls are 10 months old, so they are still taking bottles, but I plan to give them rice milk and/or diluted coconut milk around 1 year.

Have you also checked the protein content on the rice milk? I find that many of them are much lower than dairy milk or soy milk.

For our DD, we tried to find the highest fat content in soy milk brands. I think it was Natur-a, at 6 g fat per serving. Most of the others are 3-4 g per serving. We also pour a teaspoon of flax seed oil in her oatmeal every morning. Natur-a makes a yummy strawberry soy milk which DD loved to drink from a sippy. No luck with regular flavored soy milk until much later when the bottles were gone.

DD loves meat. (See my confession post in the Lounge!) So she eats a lot of sausage and pork chops, etc. Saturated fat is bad, I know... But I figure she's burning it off right?

We were concerned that DD was eating so much soy. So now, we go half rice milk, half soy milk.

Like PP, I just increased fat in other food choices - avacados, salmon, oil on veggies/meats/oatmeal. For flax seed oil, DD gets about 2 teaspoons worth everyday in either her oatmeal or her yogurt. But I don't measure it and I don't worry if I miss a day or give her two servings of it on any given day.

Thanks. I was just noticing that rice milk has hardly any protein compared to cow's milk. Luckily DD likes meat (for now).
