I keep trying to find a pair of the new sporty "mary janes" that is really supportive. I got a pair of Merrells in red that I really like, but I transplanted flowers while wearing them 2 years ago and I trashed the insoles so now I am using Powerfeet insoles and they stink when you don't wear socks.

Bought a pair of Lands End ones in light blue. cute. But too wide/sloppy even though the size is right. Also NOOOOO support and again I have to put in the stupid insoles.

I have tried Keens but the toe cap rubs my toe. Any new ones this year?

Maybe the other question is, -----Do they make supportive anti microbial sole inserts??

I love my Mephisto sneaker-like maryjanes. I have the ones that come in purple/pink. SO comfy!

Yes, I second this. I think they're called Mephisto allrounders. Expensive, but I got mine deeply discounted after shopping around. My only complaint is that they're not antibacterial, so you know what that means. I think it's important to find a pair that's antibacterial if you're going to wear them without socks. I'm looking into finding antibacterial liners to help my beloved Mephisto allrounders!

ETA: Here's a look at them from Nordstrom:

I just found another one -- I forgot I'd ordered them and they just arrived! Ecco X-treme Jane (http://www.shoebuy.com/ecco-x-treme-jane/190494/424643). They are anti-bacterial.:)

I love the Ecco brand; it's my absolute favorite. I have to wear custom orthodics and also wear shoes with lots of support. Ecco never fails! Mephisto is also good but quite a bit pricier than Ecco (though I found my purple Allrounders for $99).

I ordered the Ecco shoes from Shoebuy through Fatwallet, so I get 10% back. I also had a 20% coupon. They ended up being around $70 and then I'll get $7 back from FW. Great deal! :D (I had tried them on in a store first, so I knew they were comfy).

I have a pair of great Mary Janes that are Josef Seibel, but I bought them a few years ago, and I haven't been able to find them doing a quick search. It's a very nice, supportive brand though. I also second looking at Ecco, or even Clark's.

A brand called Ahnu makes a great pair--I have them in two colors. Very comfortable. I think the brand is a Keen spin-off, made by some of the same people, but without the big toe part that doesn't work for me.

I think you had the exact same red Merrels as me and sadly I had to trash mine this year due to stink as well. Unfortunately I have yet to find a pair that I love as much as those. They just went with everything so well and were SO comfy. I ended up with another pair of Merrells - they are like these but not mesh:

The only bad thing I have to say about the Mephisto allrounders and shoes like them is that some of them are pretty clunky looking. They're serious walking shoes. You could walk around for miles in them, so they're very generously sized and really let your foot spread out. I wear them all the time, but when I want to look a bit more polished/cute, I wear something like this Cole Haan Air Bria. They work for me because they have a rubber soul so they get me around the playground and I don't have to worry that they're so delicate that I'm wearing them out. You can find different styles in the Cole Haan Air line that are more mary jane-ish.

ETA: I think the Merrells that people have mentioned are less clunky looking than my Mephisto allrounders. They're kinda sleek, I think! Too bad they're not anti-microbial!

sorry to hijack your thread, but I have a stupid question:

Do you guys wear these shoes with socks ever? or just without? and if with socks, what kind?

That's my issue. I don't wear them with socks. They are warm weather shoes for me. And I hate the foot stink. I liked the styles suggested. I just have to get over the $169 price tag!! That's more than Danskos!

Yeah, Rebecca, trust me, I don't spend $169 for shoes, EVER. For example, I think I got my Mephisto allrounders for $80+ on Shoebuy when there was a code floating around for a discount on sale items. When I was certain what size I wore, I bought a pair on ebay for even less. I did the same thing with my Cole Haan Airs. I tried them on in the store, then bought them on new on ebay. It's a bit more work than just buying less expensive shoes, but unfortunately I have champagne taste and a beer budget so that's what I do. I should just work on getting a taste for beer. Well, actually I'm laughing at myself, because Mephisto allrounders aren't like champagne. Champagne taste in shoes would be more like Christian Louboutain pumps, but in my world, champagne taste is Mephisto Allrounders or Cole Haan Nike air ballet shoes.

As for the socks with these shoes question, no, I don't wear socks with them, but my SIL does. For example, she'll wear a thin black sock with black sporty shoes. It's not my favorite look, but hey, she's being practical and trying to avoid the stink problem I have!

After a week with my new Ecco mary janes, I can say that I LOVE them!! I've worn them both with socks and without. The price tag is pretty nice for the quality of shoe! (The way I listed in my other post.) They are very light and breathable since they have the mesh up by the toe area. So comfy! The box came with an "Agion" tag. :)

ETA: I wear wide-legged pants/jeans with a long hem, so my socks aren't very noticeable.

Christina, thanks for the review. I think they look so much like the Mephisto allrounders that I try them next time instead of a new pair of Allrounders. I had never heard of "Agion" so I googled it and it looks like, just maybe, there is an antimicrobial insert made of Agion I could hunt down.

I looked on ebay last night and found a new pair of Mephistos for about $50 and a new pair of Eccos for less than $60. I bought them both--I justified it by saying that if I alternate them, the stink problem won't be so bad!

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/29894164/c/84.html I love them. They are so comfy. They have an insole that you can take out and wash. I wear them without socks most of the time.

Have fun shopping!

I got the Eccos and Mephistos today. I am wearing the Eccos as I type! I got the 41 because that's what I wear in Danskos--should have done a 40 but they are so adjustable that I just pulled some straps and they fit fine. I love the support. The odd thing is that Lands End makes a great knock off of these shoes--but it is like walking on a board--NO support.

The Mephistos are all leather, I'll try those on tomorrow :)

Ok- I think I am ready to take the plunge and order some Privo's- What color do y'all have?

I'd check out shoebuy.com if you are interested in Privos. They don't have quite the selection that Zappos does, but prices are typically a little lower, and you can almost always find a coupon code for 15-20% off. Also, if you go through ebates, you can get another 8% off.

Here is a link to the Privo Acacia: http://www.shoebuy.com/privo-acacia/233849/500520

Molly, I think we have the same shoes. I've been looking for a replacement without any success. They are so cute and comfy, but mine have seen better days!

I wear liner socks with them. You really don't see them with the shoes on. My feet feel gross if I wear them without socks. I got them at Macy's.
