How do you cut the Dr Browns straws to get them to fit?

OK, title says it all. I remember reading that you can cut the vent straws to fit them into gerber bottles. So I bought them and tried to cut them. Dang the vent straws are hard. I've tried my kitchen shears and a knife. Any ideas? I currently have a mutilated vent straw and a bunch of bottles that are too short :)

A hacksaw, I thik. But mind you, I didn't actually do this b/c when I realized that it would take a hacksaw to cut those suckers, I went out and got a bunch of Gerber bottles.

I was too sleep deprived at the time to have been trusted with sharp objects . . .
