Amen! She is soooooo amazing - and I loved how she had the officials hold the semi for the 50 free while another competitor changed her ripped suit. She is such an awesome example.

I loved watching dara go, go, go! You know, I have never felt this way about an olympic athlete before. She just seems like such a genuine and warm person. I really wanted her to win and was so happy to she her do so. I thought it was so nice of her to watch out for the other swimmer yesterday, when she realized her suit had ripped and she needed to get changed. She took the role of telling the officials about it. I felt like, her behavior is what the olympics is supposed to be about, kwim? Better yet, I am glad that she did so well, when there were ppl who thought that she was too old to win. I love that kind of determination. :) Oh and I thought it was cool that she's a mom too. I think there are only about a dozen or so US women olympians who are mothers, that's not a lot. I just think it is awesome that they are moms and olympians too!

According to Sports Illustrated, there are 20 moms in the 280ish US women Olympic athletes. Go moms!!!

What an inspiration! Makes me want to get in a pool (or gym- or heck, even take a run around the block)! If she can do that at 41, I can do *something* at 31!!!!

She is so inspiring. Between her & the 38 year old woman who won the marathon it makes me want to become an athlete!

Did anyone see Torres interview on NBC -- she had on jeans and a grey t-shirt. And brown flipflops/thongs, they had a large circle on the top of the foot, looked like leather.

Please help me find her shoes. :)

I think Dara Torres has special meaning to me because of the motherhood and female element of it, but there are times watching her where I just think what an awesome example to HUMANITY. More than anything else, the one thing that unites all people is that we're all going to get old. The teenaged swimmers don't know it yet, Michael Phelps doesn't know it yet, but we all end up there. She's past there, in terms of elite competition, and she has defied age, it seems, and that is amazing for everyone.

I didn't realize that Jason Lezak who won the 100 meter free relay for the men is 32 years old. That's not ancient, but still pretty cool.

As an aside, Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor, the beach volleyball players, are each 30 years old I believe. I mention this only because I was sure they were "about" my age and that Misty might be older than me (IMO), and I am just shy of 38. It shows how relucantly we change our self-image about being young.
