My mom asked what to buy dd for her 2nd b-day. We already have everything for girls since I have another dd who is 2 yrs older. My younger one loves to play with whatever the older one is playing with especially dolls and all that goes with them like stroller, etc, loves the play kitchen and shopping cart, etc. Anyway, my mom really wants to get her a toy or something to play with vs money for a class, etc. We also already have all the music and art stuff so we don't need more of that either.

Any ideas for a toy geared towards a 2 yr old that is really cool to tell grandma to buy?

Thanks!

I'm totally a broken record, but monogrammed/personalized stuff. Monogrammed LE canvas tote, personalized music CD, monogrammed towel/swim cover up, that sort of thing.

I would suggest a nice doll. It would be nice for her to have her own versus playing with her sisters.

A new Lego Duplo set? The new grocery store looks adorable.

A gift certificate to Build A Bear would also be a great gift. Or maybe your mom could take your DD herself and it could be a fun day out with Grandma.

In this vein, DS really wants a fun hooded towel like DD's. A monogrammed one from PBK or like would be fun in a few months if not immediately.

Speaking of monogrammed stuff... My sister gave my DS a LL Bean monogrammed backpack for his first birthday and he loved it! Four years later and we still use it all the time. It's tiny but he packs toys in it when we travel. It was different but about the same size as this one: http://tinyurl.com/5aknhj

How about books? Or something personalized?

I was going to suggest a backpack as well. Kids are always wanting to take stuff with them so a backpack is a great idea. When we go on a trip, my son gets to pack his with whatever he wants, which make him feel so grown-up. He has the LL Bean Jr. Orginal Back Pack, which is smaller:

Her own special doll? If I had a little girl who loved dolls I would get her a custom Waldorf doll that looks like her.

A balance bike? We got DS2 a Specialized Hotwalk for his 2nd birthday, and he loves it!

do you have dressup stuff? That came to mind as DD will be getting some for her 2nd bday (the girl loooooves shoes and clothes LOL).

Special doll

Some sort of special jewelry to put away (a friend of mine is doing the add a pearl each year type of necklace...not sure of the name). Chasing Fireflies has some beautiful bracelets...you could probably find something similar on Etsy for much cheaper (and obviously you'd want to only have her wear it for special occasions/with supervision to start). I like the bracelets CF has that are on a ribbon (but those are out of my price range and I'd be finding someone on etsy to make one inspired by that style)

small gift and donation to college fund

Rody Pony? (something else I'm tossing around for my high-energy soon to be 2 year old ;) )

I like the monogrammed purse/backpack idea. A friend's dd has a little Vera Bradley type child-sized purse that is monogrammed for her DD. Very cute.

eta: table and chairs? Kinderzeat/Tripp Trapp?

We have the same problem, with two girls. For DD2's second birthday, we got her a Specialized Hotwalk balance bike, her big-girl bedding, some personalized barrettes from Etsy, and some other little stuff. How about a new Little People set? A wagon or other outdoor toy? A plasma car? One of those personalized books? A double stroller for dolls (we love our American Girl one)? An umbrella/raincoat/rainboot set?

Love the Build A Bear idea too!!!

It seems to have mixed reviews but I think that the Bilibo looks really fun (we don't have one so this is just one of my wish items) and I also agree about the special doll for her. If her big sis has a doll she really loves you could get a second one. (But I have twin girls so maybe this is actually weird for most kids).

Here are a few ideas:

Playskool Puppy with babies. DD got the pink spotted one for her BDay and loves it. I liked this purple poodle better because the mom and babies have pom pom tails and ears. Too Cute! Ous came with triplets (litter is twins to quads) girls though some do come with boys. They will have blue under their ears. They also have kitties, bunnies and ponies though you would have to search for those.

Strawberry Short Cake. Hat and Glasses, Too Cute!

Do you guys have any Only Hearts Club Dolls? They are sort of like Barbie but are soft. Not really under 3 years of age becuse of small parts but...DD saw one on clearence at Target recently and my Mom was with us so she bought one for her. She really likes that too. It was a fantisy doll one. Worth a look. I really like the faces. These a great, wholesome Barbie type dolls.

Dolls. I know everyone recomends Corolle and Madame Alexander but we are loving our Fisher Price Little Mommy dolls. Even my DS likes to play with them. He will not with the others we have. They make babies and Toddler Dolls. Target has the exclusive bathtime one and the halloween ones but I've seen the princess and fairy ones too. Walmart, Babies/Toys R Us.

Want something totally different? Try the FP Snuggle Kins. Animal Baies to take care of! We LOVE IT, even DH LOL! Got fot BDay and all the kids love it. Super Sweet sounds (not annoying or loud) The tiger purrs while asleep. We have the cradle, tiger and stroller.

We have some Le Toy Van stuff. The hand bag House and train set with some little people. Saw them in a B&M mom and pop shop and HAD to get it for DD #1. If your ok with wood and you and DD like girly things its great. Awesome quality and nothing like it really. The fabric curtains in the house still makes me smile when I see it. ;) We have some dollhouse stuff too.

OH MY GOSH! The Letoy items might be the cutest thing I have seen! We love wood stuff! My dd has the PBK doll house and I sure wish I knew about these before! I love the cars and horse stable acessories. I do not see prices on their website. Any idea how to order or how much stuff runs?

oops, just clicked on the Amazon link and saw the items. The car and trailor are $100 which might be a bit pricy. Another idea I had is this rocking chair from Land Of Nod

http://www.landofnod.com/family.aspx?c=324&f=3911

Big sister already has the chenille chair from Kidkraft. Both kids are getting doll strollers and dolls from grandma for the holidays. My mom is getting each of the Badger double stroller from costco.com. It got great reviews. They are each getting the same one to avoid fighting over it :) They are also getting the Badger bunk beds, but just one since they can easily share that since it has room for 2 dolls to sleep.

I think her own doll is a great idea. And what about an extra doll stroller? Kids are always fighting over who gets to use the stroller.

A tea set? We have about three, and they are always a hit.

A toy broom? I just gave one to my ds for his 2nd b-day yesterday and ALL my kids love it. It's our third - the other 2 have broken - kids always love brooms.

Some art supplies? Some basic crayons and drawing paper?

A play tent & tunnel set? We also have a play house that was made by PlayWonder from Target (about $40). It is in my dd's room, and the kids love playing in it.

Table and chairs? Maybe you already have a set. This is a MUST for successful tea parties, lol!

On the less expensive end of the spectrum, I like to give bath stuff - crayons, bubble bath, silly soap - that can be used up. ALEX has a line of this stuff. That way, it's fun for the kid but you can't have too much of it.

That is a great idea. I like to have a rotation of bath toys, so I can chuck the old stuff.
