This might be a dumb question, but if I had registered to vote about 5 years ago, do I need to register again? I haven't moved and am at the same place. But I can't seem to find out through my state website. Would love to find out. Thanks so much in advance.

I am in CA and I found a number to call to check it was my local county registrars office. THey were able to check and then tell me that I did in fact need to re-register. However, if you haven't moved I think you should be fine. Still might want to call to make sure though!

To my knowledge, if you have not moved, you don't need to reregister.

If you haven't moved, and haven't received anything about a change in your polling place, then you should be fine to show up at the location with your photo id/proof of address and be fine.

You might want to check for your state requirements for voting. I have my voter registration card that I have to take, along with photo id.

The voter registration laws differ drastically by state. I would start with your county clerk or registrar's office. North Dakota doesn't require registration at all. Some allow registration & voting on the same day. Some require ID, some nothing & you can just show up.

You can go to www.voteforchange.com and type in your info. It searches for you and finds your registration, polling place, etc. For full disclosure, it is paid for by the Obama campaign.

Each state has different rules and regulations. I don't know which state you're in, but I was able to find them out at michigan.gov - and also make sure I was properly registered on the same site. Check out your state's website. You might want to hurry, I think the deadline for registering *might* have been Oct. 1 - though that might have just been MI.

Have you voted in any elections during the past five years? If you have, you should be fine to go to your polling place and vote on Election Day. At a minimum, you should check to see if your polling place has changed - that happens from time to time.

ETA that in Georgia, the deadline to register is October 6.
